Jason Momoa Fuels Speculation That Khal Drogo Is Returning to ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7: Details!

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen our favorite khal make an appearance on Game of Thrones. A casualty of the first season, Jason Momoa’s character, Khal Drogo, died in a brawl with another member of his clan, leading the way for his Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), to take a swing at the Iron Throne. There hasn’t been any hint about the Conan the Barbarian actor returning to the role — until now.

Momoa, 37, recently posted a photo to his Instagram page, of himself in Northern Ireland sharing a Guinness with Game of Thrones series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. (The U.K. country is one of the show’s key film locations.)

“Love ya GOT greatest show on earth ALOHA DROGO,” Momoa wrote in the caption. In a word: whoa.

Now before fans get overly excited, it should be said that the in-demand actor has been splitting his time between England and Ireland for his role as Aquaman in the 2017 blockbuster Justice League. However, his part in the Warner Brothers’ juggernaut has already wrapped, and he is currently between movies, leading to speculation that this is more than a reunion among pals and is instead a major plot twist for the Emmy-winning HBO series.

While the odds of Drogo returning to life are probably slim to nil (just sayin’!), it’s anyone’s guess what remains in store for the final two seasons. The season 6 finale saw Dany hitting the open waters to finally bring war to King’s Landing and the Lannister clan. With this increased focus on Khaleesi, bringing back rising star Momoa as a spirit or perhaps in a flashback would make perfect sense.

There is no doubt that the new season will bring its share of shockers. Maisie Williams, the actress who brings Arya Stark to life, tweeted this week that “nothing will prepare you” for the next batch of episodes. Indeed, Momoa’s potential return certainly qualifies as a twist that not many viewers would have seen coming!
