Born in Columbus, Georgia, Charity Lawson earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University in May 2022. After working as a child and family therapist, Lawson was cast on Zach Shallcross’ season 27 of The Bachelor. The reality TV personality was ultimately sent home after hometowns week.

Lawson was named the Bachelorette for season 20 in March 2023, which began filming later that month. The ABC personality is the franchise’s fourth Black Bachelorette, following Rachel Lindsay, Tayshia Adams and Michelle Young’s respective seasons.

Lawson got engaged to Dotun Olubeko during the August 2023 finale. While making their first joint appearance on the After the Final Rose special, Olubeko announced that Lawson would join the season 32 cast of Dancing With the Stars.
