About

Natalie Maines is an American musician and the lead vocalist of the country band the Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks). Natalie is the daughter of country musician Lloyd Maines. She was raised in Lubbock, Texas, and attended South Plains College before studying at Berklee College of Music, though she left before graduating.

In 1995, she joined the Dixie Chicks as lead vocalist, replacing founding singer Laura Lynch. With Natalie fronting the group, The Chicks became one of the best-selling female bands in music history. Their albums Wide Open Spaces (1998), Fly (1999) and Home (2002) produced hits including “Cowboy Take Me Away,” “Wide Open Spaces” and “Not Ready to Make Nice.”

The group has earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2007 Grammys for Taking the Long Way. Natalie has also pursued music as a soloist and released her debut solo album, Mother, in 2013.

Natalie married musician Michael Tarabay in 1997 before the pair divorced. She later married actor Adrian Pasdar in 2000 and they welcomed two sons, Jackson (born in 2001) and Beckett (born in 2004). Their divorce was finalized in 2019.
