Mere hours before announcing his split from wife of four years Miranda Lambert, it was business as usual for Blake Shelton. The “Honeybee” crooner, 39, was all smiles on Sunday, July 19, indulging his passion for NASCAR at the Sprint Cup Series in Loudon, N.H.
Hanging out with the event’s grand marshal, Adam Sandler, Shelton showed no signs of the personal turmoil he was experiencing with Lambert, 31. As an eyewitness told Us Weekly, it appeared the newly single Voice coach was just there to kick back and enjoy some R&R. “Blake is a big fan and close friends with several of our drivers, including Clint Bowyer,” the attendee said.
Taking photos with fans Sunday, Shelton kept his wedding ring on. “He seemed to be in a fine mood and was chatting up fellow guests at the race,” the attendee added.
While her husband spent the weekend on the East Coast, Lambert was in Wyoming to perform at the Cheyenne Frontier Days festival on Saturday, July 18. She fought through tears to sing “The House That Built Me,” a song that was originally written for Shelton.
“No one wants to cry in front of 19,000 people,” Lambert told the Cheyenne crowd mid-way through her routine, too overcome to finish singing. “I think you know this song so will y’all sing it for me?”
On Monday, July 20, Shelton and Lambert revealed that their happily ever after wasn’t that at all. “This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately,” they told Us in a joint statement. “We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
TMZ reports that Shelton filed his divorce documents nearly two weeks ago, and that a judge signed off on the papers on Monday afternoon.
