Sister Wives star Meri Brown reveals she received a parting gift from ex-husband Kody Brown, which she suspects was actually picked out by his fourth wife, Robyn Brown.
“He gave you a divorce ring?” a jewelry appraiser named Brett asks Meri, 55, in Us’ exclusive sneak peek at the Sunday, November 1, episode of the hit TLC series.
Meri’s former sister wife Christine Brown chimes in, saying, “Yeah, sweet huh?” hinting that only Meri received a ring when she and Kody, 57, split in January 2023 after more than three decades together. (Christine, for her part, left Kody in November 2021 after 26 years in a spiritual union.)
“But do you notice? Wedding ring? Divorce ring? Which one is he most excited about?” Meri teases, revealing that her wedding ring was a small, gold double band with a tiny stone, while her divorce ring was much larger and had a big yellow-orange stone in the middle.
The jeweler jokingly responds, “I was going to say, was he happier about the divorce than the marriage? Because that’s pretty big.”
Meri, who was Kody’s first of four wives during their plural marriage, agrees she thinks her ex was sending a message with the larger goodbye bauble.
Christine, meanwhile, has thoughts about where that ring really came from, telling the cameras, “That ring was probably purchased by Robyn at a Home Shopping Network, and it was probably in Robyn’s gift closet.”
Christine, who shares six children with Kody, adds, “I’m sorry, a lot of things that Kody gave came from Robyn’s gift closet and I’m sure that that’s where this ring came from.”
Meri, who shares one child with her former spouse, appears to be on the same page as Christine, revealing she was always weary about where the so-called divorce ring came from.
“I did specifically ask Robyn after he gave me that ring if she picked it out,” Meri tells the cameras, claiming Kody’s only remaining wife, 48, responded at the time saying, “‘Oh, no, no, no. He picked it out.’”
Meri admits, “I didn’t believe her at the time, and I still don’t. I’ve never for one second thought that was something that Kody thought, ‘Oh, I think I should go get her a really nice ring and give it to her.’”
Back at the appraiser, Meri’s other ex-sister wife Janelle Brown is eager to find out the value of the divorce ring. (Janelle, 57, announced her separation from Kody in December 2022.)
“If it’s fake, oh, it’s going to be so epic,” she says with a laugh, while Christine confesses, “I would laugh my head off.”
The jeweler explains that the larger ring is silver and the stone might be a Mexican fire opal.
“It’s still not super duper valuable. I really hate, like, just downplaying it,” he tells the group, but Meri says it’s fine to “totally downplay it” since it “was a divorce ring” after all.
When Meri says she and Kody were together 31 years, the appraiser is even more surprised by the caliber of jewelry he chose to give her as a goodbye.
“Oh yeah, no, he way undersold it. He should have done something much better than this,” the jeweler quips. “If this is like the divorce ring, not good enough.”
He then reveals, “Honestly, I think it was maybe like $200 to $300 if I was betting,” before guessing that it was probably purchased at a pawn shop.
All three of Kody’s exes exchange looks, while Janelle lets out an audible laugh at the price tag, hinting no one is surprised.
“It’s cheap. It’s a cheap piece of jewelry,” Janelle tells the camera. “You could have bought her something nicer, but no. And it looks nice. It looks really pretty, but it’s not. It’s cheap. It’s really cheap.”
