Mastering the hair-tuck involves more than just popping your head through a turtleneck or a scarf. Take it from Kendall Jenner, who rocked the faux bob-inspired style with the rest of the models on the Vera Wang fall 2016 runway on Tuesday, February 16.
“It’s about the idea of a smaller rounded look: not pinned or sleeked, but with the hair emerging from an elongated design silhouette,” celeb hairstylist Paul Hanlon, who created the runway looks, told Us Weekly. “It’s all about healthy condition, rounded lines and hair that’s not at all over-styled.”
Though normal faux bobs take tons of bobby pins, Hanlon’s creation doesn’t require any and only uses Pai-Shau Biphasic Infusion ($45, pai-shau.com for salons), a smoothing hair primer, and Pai-Shau Imperial Hold Hairspray ($29.50, pai-shau.com for salons).
Starting with Jenner’s air-dried locks, he applied a touch of the hair primer to the base of the strands to smooth and hydrate, and blow-dried the ends with a round brush. He then created two-inch braided sections behind each ear and kept them in place with hairspray.
With Jenner’s hair parted naturally in a relaxed style, Hanlon secured the style by tying a silicone elastic band around the base of the neck and hair — like a choker necklace — the secret to keeping the locks in place beneath a jacket or scarf.
Finally, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and the other models tucked their ends into their high-collared shirts and Hanlon finished with more hairspray for a natural-looking hold.
The end result was an effortless style that contrasted strong, feminine silhouettes in Wang’s collection.
