Vera Wang

The commuter: The designer of the dreamiest, most exquisitely detailed wedding gowns — and the style steals of the season with Kohl’s — mixes high and low fashion as only a lifelong Manhattanite can. “I’m an uptown girl with a downtown sensibility,” says Wang. “I adore a Prada wrinkled gold metallic mid-calf skirt as well as a Simply Vera top. I can go from hyper-modern to very feminine, as long as it is creative or inventive.” Patron Saint: “I really loved what Yves Saint Laurent did for women [in the ’60s and ’70s]. He put women in men’s clothing. His vision of women was very free, but sophisticated.” Shopping city: “I love to shop,” she says. Her faves? Rick Owens and Marni (“for fur, leather, and shoes”); Comme des Garcons, Junya Wantanabe, Tao, Sacai, and Undercover (“for Ts, knits, and the most creative cuts and detailing”); Prada (“for everything”); Fendi (“for bags”); Ann Demeulemeester (“for shoes”). Don’t sweat it: “I’m one of the original sweater girls,” she admits. “I’m all about T-shirt dressing and sweater dressing. If you can’t be comfortable, you’re not really stylish, in my book.”
