The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards are fast approaching! So we’re counting down the days by taking a look back at some of the VMA red carpet fashion of years past, including hot couple style.
Over the years, we’ve seen some pretty iconic duos walk the VMAs red carpet together, from Jennifer Lopez and Sean “Diddy” Combs to Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. Though the looks may not always age well, they’re certainly still a memorable moment in fashion history.
When J.Lo and P. Diddy hit the 2000 red carpet at Radio Music Hall in New York City, they served as a perfect timestamp for pop music and style of the early aughts. Keeping casual and cool, the producer wore an oversized white T-shirt with black jeans, a baseball hat, sunglasses and a giant cross chain. Then there was the songstress, who showed off her taut tummy in an itty-bitty crop top with low-cut white jeans that popped thanks to her chain belt. To tie the whole ensemble together, she wore a bandana with her hair pulled back in pigtails. It may not be the most glamorous look of all time, but it’s one we’ll never forget.
As far as fashionable sophistication goes, Pink and Carey Hart probably did it best at the 2012 awards show. He kept it sleek and simple in an all-black tuxedo, while she wore a form-fitting, long-sleeve gown that was everything.
Though it’s going to look very different this year without a red carpet due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we can still hardly wait to see what A-listers like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande wear for their big performances. But until then, we don’t mind looking back at VMA red carpets past.
