About

Jason Alexander (born Jay Scott Greenspan) is an actor, comedian, director and singer best known for playing George Costanza on Seinfeld. Alexander was raised in Livingston, New Jersey, and went on to attend Boston University, where he studied theater. He left before graduating to pursue a professional acting career, but he was later awarded an honorary degree.

Alexander began his career on the New York stage, earning recognition for his work in Broadway productions before breaking into television and film. He won a Tony Award in 1989 for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway. His breakthrough came that same year when he was cast as George Costanza opposite Jerry Seinfeld on Seinfeld. The NBC sitcom ran for nine seasons and made Alexander a household name. During the show’s run, he received seven consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations as both a supporting and guest actor, and he later earned two Screen Actors Guild Awards as part of the ensemble.

Throughout his career, Alexander has also appeared on the big screen in films including Pretty Woman (1990), Coneheads (1993), Shallow Hal (2001) and Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009). He has also voiced characters in animated projects including The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), American Dad! and Mating Season.

Alexander married Daena Title in 1982, and the couple share sons Gabe and Noah.
