Sharing a Bed

During a July 2022 appearance on "The Ellen Fisher Podcast," the Miss Match alum shared a parenting confession that she anticipated getting "in trouble" for. "Bear and I still sleep together," she revealed.

After adding that she didn't "really care" what people thought of her sharing a bed with her 11-year-old, the Kind Diet author said, "I’m a natural mama, and I’m a loving mama. I believe in love, I believe in nature and our society is scared of nature and love."

Love for Animals

In May 2022, Silverstone penned a letter about her son's relationship with animals in support of Farm Sanctuary's Mother's Day adoption campaign.

"One of the greatest and most rewarding things in my life has been being a mom to Bear. Many of you have seen him grow up over the last decade because one of our very favorite things to do together is visit the rescued animals at Farm Sanctuary!" the actress wrote on the nonprofit's website. "For animal lovers, Mother's Day can be bittersweet when we think of the other species who just want to love their babies and are robbed of the opportunity to exercise their maternal instinct because of human greed and exploitation in factory farming."

Silverstone noted that she has instilled an appreciation for other creatures in her child. "That's why raising Bear with an awareness of animal sentience and compassion — not just for the animals we share our home with, but for the entire animal kingdom — has been my bedrock of being a Kind Mama," she added.

Silverstone snapped a selfie with her “determined” son in July 2021, writing via Instagram: "Bear and I went on a beautiful hike in Alaska with our friends. Flattop trail was our first time hiking in this state. It was a bit scary toward the end when we were crawling up the top of mountain."

During a December 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Sister of the Groom star claimed that Bear has never "needed antibiotics in nine years" or "needed any kind of medical intervention" thanks to his plant-based diet. "He's such an example of health," Silverstone said at the time, clarifying that she doesn't have a problem with medicine in general. "I'm not saying I wouldn't give it to him," she explained. "I'm saying he doesn't need it."

"It’s a big growing up moment for a mom because I didn’t realize how when they talk their hair off, how much it changes [them],” Silverstone told Access Hollywood in December 2020 of Bear's haircut. “He looks like a kid instead of my baby. Did I cry inside as I watched him get it cut? Maybe… but did I try to stop him? Not for one second," the actress captioned an Instagram video in November 2020. "The reason he chose to keep it for as long as he did was because he loved it so much!!! He just wanted to try something new.
