"This is a post for my husband," Burton wrote via Instagram in May 2022. "For no particular reason other than to say he’s great. This year has been one of loss, difficulty, mourning ... and at every turn he prioritizes making our kids laugh, and checking in on how I’m feeling. He’s a decent and strong man."

While announcing their new alcohol brand, Mischief Farms Libations, in April 2022, the couple gushed over one another via social media. “On our first date, it was clear that @jeffreydeanmorgan was a big dreamer,” Burton captioned a series of photos of their new whiskey and gin bottles.

She added: “Very quickly we planned a family, a farm, small businesses (@samuelssweetshop), a production company, and a hefty amount of fun all throughout. And it has been the WILDEST of rides. But even now - 13 years in — we are still daydreaming about what else we can create together.”

Xo,” Morgan wrote via Instagram in December 2021 alongside a photo of his wife lounging on the couch in her robe ahead of the holidays. “I should add some context … Monday morning after nonstop for days, weeks, months of doing all she can do to bring devonia inman and Nikki Addimando home from prison for the holidays. TIRELESS. Phone calls, emails, zoom meetings, a damn tv show. The results are coming in… she wears combat boots for a reason. I couldn’t be more proud. @hilarieburton is a bonafide badass.”

Burton shared a “husband appreciation post” via Instagram in July 2021, writing, "This is the best man. … There’s a solid reason Gus and George’s hero is @jeffreydeanmorgan. He makes things fun."

Best Friend

“Happy birthday to my best friend. @hilarieburton is a lot of things … I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what words to use to describe her awesomeness … there are too many,” Morgan wrote via Instagram in July 2021, celebrating his wife’s 39th birthday. “She … in a word? Perfect. The hottest. The smartest. Most thoughtful. Pretty damn funny. Easily the meanest according to our kids. Also hands down, the best mom … according to our kids … and me. Talented as hell. Nobody kisses better… not that I’d know. But really… more than anything? She’s my best friend.” 

The Grey’s Anatomy alum gushed over the birthday girl, adding, “Every second of everyday she’s many of the above things simultaneously, more. But ALWAYS, my best friend. And it’s her birthday. And I’m not with her. I should be. I should never miss her birthday. Ever. So… after this year, I won’t. I love you Mrs. Morgan. I’m wishing you the happiest of days…. When I get home. Love You the Most

Burton explained how loving Morgan so much was both a blessing and a curse in a sweet June 2021 Father’s Day post.

“What a glorious curse to love another human this much. A lot of people are celebrating that the lockdown of the last year and a half is seemingly over. Not us so much,” she wrote. “Between productions being shut down and virtual school for Gus, this was the very first time in our life that we all got to be together for an extended period of time. My husband @jeffreydeanmorgan has killed himself over the years to get home for soccer practices, school art shows, birthday parties. But for this last year+ we have all been attached at the hip. And we loved it.”

The One Tree Hill alum noted that her family was a “weepy mess” after dropping their patriarch at the airport — but it was worth it.

“As I tried to explain to our kids, what an absolute miracle to love someone so much! We are so lucky to have this man in our lives. The goodbyes are f—king heartbreaking," she wrote. "The hellos are holidays in and of themselves. I just want to shout from the rooftops that I found the perfect father for my kids, and I don’t take it for granted. All your effort means the world to us, Jeffrey.”

So Proud

"He may play a devilishly handsome bad guy on TV, but everyone knows @jeffreydeanmorgan is a sweetheart! I’m gonna take this moment to brag on my husband because I think he deserves ALL the awards. All of em. Hell, give him the Heisman. An MTV VMA. A Kentucky Derby wreath," Burton captioned a photo of her husband in April 2021, noting that he makes his job on The Walking Dead look "effortless" although it's not at all. "He can easily shift between Denny charm, and Ike Evans moral confusion and Negan bravado. He’s not afraid to cry AND kick someone’s ass all in the same project. He can deliver a 20page monologue, give it endless layers and make it look easy! That’s some #ianmcshane on #deadwood level fun!"

She also complimented his role as a father in her post. "No one will ever know the work he puts into his roles at home, cause talking about 'the craft' is corny and he’d rather just show up on set and know his shit. Walk the walk," the author continued. "But as his biggest fan, I want folks to know and appreciate that he does all his prep work with a toddler attached to him like a barnacle, and a tween boy asking him a million questions and a nagging wife who wants to know what he wants for dinner and if he’s checked the mail."

“He’s a person who is electric, dynamic. He laughs hard and can curse a blue streak, and has a heart bigger than most,” Burton wrote via Instagram in April 2020, of her husband on his birthday. “He takes on responsibility and fights for others, and works hard. And then he comes home and doesn’t rest...he’s the pony that our kids hop on. He’s the cuddler of donkeys. He’s the dreamer who pulls a log out of the woods and makes a table or art or mountains of firewood.”

She added: “But to me, he is the only person who’s opinion matters. I met him when I was 26, and he saw me for who I wanted to be. And then he kicked down every obstacle to get us here. Happy Birthday, Jeffrey. You make everything better.”

“This was maybe our third date. @tinkertown. New Mexico,” the Lethal Weapon alum wrote via Instagram in April 2020, alongside a throwback photo of the couple at the beginning of their relationship. “This sign was an omen. ‘Live Life as the pursuit of happiness.’ It’s scary out there. Calm in the Storm

“I’ve aged 300 years in the last month. And I’ve got all the grey hair to prove it. After absorbing all the messages asking for help, I’ve also had more than one freak out,” the mother of two shared via Instagram in April 2020, amid the coronavirus pandemic. “So I just publicly want to thank my husband @jeffreydeanmorgan for being the rock of our family. The calm in the storm. Thanks for letting me cry, for not caring that the house is a disaster, or that dinner is usually at 9pm. Also, thanks for bringing me coffee in bed this morning. You’re nice.”

“I wrote a love letter so long we had to make it a book! Happy Valentines Day you guys,” Burton wrote via Instagram in February 2020, announcing her book, The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm. “Our official release date is May 5th, just in time for Mother’s Day! (Which also happens to be the anniversary of when JD and I met. Kismet.)” The actress then thanked her No. 1 fan, her husband, for his support during the writing process.

“The biggest thank you of all goes to my forever Valentine, @jeffreydeanmorgan,” she continued. “This farm has seen us through so many ups and downs. Births and losses. Even just this week, we mourned our sweet Snowball together. Being your teammate makes all the unexpected turns manageable. You have given me a life worth writing about, and I love you. Plain and simple. I love you.”

A Decade of Love

Burton reflected on the 2010s by sharing unseen pictures from the couple’s nuptials on New Year’s Eve 2019.

“Ten years ago, I was pregnant, unemployed, unsure about where I was gonna live or give birth and despite the bravado I may have projected, I was scared. My whole life I’d thought I would follow the same path as everyone I’d grown up around. Have a steady job. Get married. Buy a house. Have kids. But the path didn’t unfold that way at all,” she wrote in December 2019. “A decade later, I can look back at my younger self and say “it’s okay, honey! Happiness will surprise you! Let it!” 2019 was incredibly good to our family. The wedding I thought I wanted when I was 26 was made so much sweeter by waiting. My love for @jeffreydeanmorgan has evolved into something so much deeper and golden. Our children participated and were at our sides for all of it.”

The actress added that their wedding was “the celebration of an entire decade.”

“As I see all the year in review posts today, my entire year - my entire decade really - can be summed up in that one day,” Burton gushed. “Happy New Year, everyone. I hope your path is winding and surprising and takes you on a wild ride. Biggest Happy New year to @jeffreydeanmorgan , Gus and George. Love isn’t a big enough word. October Bliss

Burton gushed about Morgan in a lengthy Instagram caption after revealing they secretly tied the knot during a “private” and “magical” ceremony. (She also denied reports that they wed in 2014.)

“Jeff and I just want to put it out there that WE GOT MARRIED! For real. We’ve lived as husband and wife for a decade. We’ve built a family, and a farm and found our community,” she wrote in October 2019. “From the moment I met @jeffreydeanmorgan , he was my husband. Rather than make vows right out of the gate, we lived them. For over ten years. The good times and the bad. Standing up there with our children at our sides – celebrating all that has been – was bliss. I love you Jeffrey. I love our intimate group of friends and family who joined us. I love the various circles of loved ones who have supported us over the years.”

After Burton and Morgan hit the 10th season premiere of The Walking Dead in September 2019, the One Tree Hill alum posted a sweet Instagram tribute to her husband. “Per the usual, I’m so proud of this one. He kills himself to get back and forth from the farm in NY to set down in GA, and he put in some damn fun performances in between,” she wrote. “The whole @thewalkingdead family has been so so good to @jeffreydeanmorgan and me and our children. Congrats to everyone there and at @amc_tv on the new season!”

The actress gushed over the daddy-daughter duo in an Instagram post in July 2019. “Have you ever seen anything cuter?!?!” she wrote alongside the snap that showed Morgan and their baby girl hugging. “Baby is pretty sweet too. #daddysgirl.”

The former Good Wife star dedicated his wife’s Mother’s Day tribute “to the best mama in the world” in May 2019. “@hilarieburton we just couldn’t love you more! It’s #earthday, but you’re our whole wide world!” Burton captioned the clip via Instagram. “You give and you give and you give. And it would be impossible to even come close to repaying you.” 

Burton then compiled “a list of all the great memories” Morgan gives “everyone else.”

After the twosome’s daughter George accidentally posted a video to Burton’s Twitter in April 2019, fans thought it might be a clip of a heartbeat. Morgan shut down those reports with an NSFW message about his wife. “It’s hils butt. I’d recognize anywhere,” he replied.
