Hollywood's Sexual Misconduct Scandals

While Hollywood may appear to be all glitz and glam on the surface, the industry has seen its fair share of scandals through the years.

The New York Times and the New Yorker first published investigative pieces that accused disgruntled movie producer Harvey Weinstein of decades of sexual assault and harassment in 2017. Soon after, Weinstein stood trial and was convicted of felony sex crime and rape.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, Jr. said in a statement in March 2020, “We thank the court for imposing a sentence that puts sexual predators and abusive partners in all segments of society on notice. We thank the survivors for their remarkable statements today and indescribable courage over the last two years … Their words took down a predator and put him behind bars, and gave hope to survivors of sexual violence all across the world.”

Weinstein’s trial and sentencing sparked the global #MeToo and #TimesUp movements across the industry with many actors, production staffers and more individuals coming forward to share their stories of alleged misconduct.

“To keep it somewhat vague … I think along with a lot of other people we’ve all had our experiences like that and until it’s happened to you, you kind of don’t really understand how it can affect you and everyone around you and I just feel very honored to be around a lot of powerful women that are speaking up about it and I think that’s where the change starts is when people start talking because you never know who’s listening or whose life you can impact,” Lucy Hale exclusively told Us Weekly in January 2018. “You know, you see the change happening it’s really an exciting time even though it started from dark times for people, I think the pay off will be extraordinary.”

After accusations of drugging and sexually assaulting women, Bill Cosby faced trial in 2017 and was subsequently convicted by the jury and sentenced to three to 10 years in prison. In addition to his sentence, the judge deemed the former actor a “sexually violent predator,” which meant he needed to undergo lifetime counseling and appear on a sex offender registry.

Cosby was released from state prison in June 2021 when his conviction was overturned after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that he had been denied his rights when providing self-incriminating evidence in a civil suit that was later used to convict him in the criminal case. While The Cosby Show alum asserts his innocence, an array of celebrities and notable personalities have spoken out about the injustice of his release.

Dylan Farrow, who previously accused her father, Woody Allen, of sexual misconduct in 1992, tweeted her thoughts on Cosby’s release at the time: “The fact that Bill Cosby, after being accused by 60 brave women, could have his conviction overturned by a technicality, and that James Franco could settle for millions of dollars as 'compensation' for the lifetime of trauma he inflicted is a travesty. It is a perfect example of how not just our society, but our justice system, continually fails survivors of sexual assault.”

Oh Yeong-su

The Squid Game star was indicted on sexual misconduct charges in Korea in November 2022, according to multiple reports. The Golden Globe winner, who was subsequently released without detention, was accused of inappropriately touching a woman in 2017.

Yeong-su has denied the allegations, telling Korean broadcaster JTBC that he only “held” the alleged victim’s hand to “guide the way around” a lake.

Cuba Gooding Jr.

The Jerry Maguire actor pleaded guilty in April 2022 to forcibly touching a woman during an alleged encounter at a New York City nightclub in 2018, according to the Associated Press. Gooding was arrested in June 2019 after allegedly groping a woman without her consent. He was later charged with two additional counts after two other women came forward with similar allegations. Gooding previously pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges.

Chris Noth

Shortly after And Just Like That premiered in December 2021, two women accused Noth of sexually assaulting them in the 2000s and 2010s. One woman told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that the alleged incident occurred at the actor's Los Angeles apartment in 2004, when she was in her 20s. The second accuser claimed the Sex and the City alum "totally violated" her in New York City in 2015, three years after he married Tara Wilson.

The TV star denied the "categorically false" accusations in a statement to Us at the time before Peloton scrapped their Mr. Big-inspired ad, which Noth starred in. Zoe Lister-Jones later claimed that Noth was "inappropriate" and "drunk" while she guest-starred on Law & Order, penning a lengthy Instagram statement praising the women who "bravely" shared their stories.

Drake Bell

The former Nickelodeon star was sentenced to two years probation and 200 hours of community service in July 2021 after pleading guilty to attempted child endangerment and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

The Drake & Josh alum was accused of sending inappropriate text messages to the victim in 2017, ahead of a scheduled concert in Cleveland, Ohio. In her statement to the court, the victim referred to Bell as a "monster" and said his crimes were "disgusting." She also accused him of grooming her.

“I just want to say today that I accept this claim because my conduct was wrong,” Bell said during the hearing. “I’m sorry that the victim was harmed in any way, but that was obviously not my intention. I take this matter very seriously, and again I just want to apologize to her and anyone else who may have been affected by my actions.”

As part of his sentence, Bell cannot have any contact with the victim. His case, which was adjudicated in Ohio, will also be referred to California, where he lives. The probation department there will determine whether he will need to register as a sex offender.

Josh Duggar

The former reality star was arrested and taken into custody in Arkansas in April 2021. He was charged with receiving and possessing child pornography. If the former 19 Kids and Counting star is found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for each count. While his trial was set to begin in July 2021, a judge granted his request to push the trial back until that November, according to documents obtained by Us in June 2021. Duggar’s attorney entered the defendant’s not guilty plea in an April 2021 hearing. Previously, Duggar made headlines in 2015 when multiple girls — including several of his sisters — claimed the Arkansas native molested them when he was a teenager. Shortly after those claims, he admitted he had cheated on his wife and went to a rehab facility.

Kyle Massey

The former That's So Raven star is likely being sued by a 13-year-old girl who claims he sent her sexually explicit messages, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly. According to reports, the Disney Channel alum will be sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress and three counts of negligence per se, including harmful matter sent with intent of seduction of a minor, attempting to commit a lewd act with a minor and annoying or molesting a minor. The Jane Doe, who met Massey when she was 4 years old, plans to sue him for $1.5 million.

After accusations emerged, the former Cory in the House star was charged for communicating with a minor for immoral purposes in June 2021. The girl and her mother never sued the actor, and according to court documents received by Us, a civil case was “dismissed for failure to prosecute and dismissed without prejudice.” Massey’s lawyers explained via a statement after his arrest that the actor “intends to aggressively defend these accusations again and will seek civil damages from those that refuse to hear the facts.”

After missing a court hearing in July 2021, a Washington state judge issued a warrant for his arrest. "The defendant failed to appear and a warrant was issued," a spokesperson for the King County Superior Court clerk's office told NBC News. "No further court dates have been set at this time." The actor also missed his arraignment, which was scheduled for late June.

Charlie Walk

The Republic Records Group president was accused of sexual misconduct by former Sony colleague Tristan Coopersmith in an open letter January 2018. She alleged that he sent her explicit text messages, groped her at business dinners and made unwelcome advances toward her. Though he has denied the allegations, claiming he worked with her 15 years ago “without incident," he resigned on February 1, from Fox’s singing competition show The Four: Battle for Stardom, which he was a judge on. Republic Records later confirmed on March 28 that “Republic Records and Charlie Walk have mutually agreed to part ways.”

Paul Marciano

Kate Upton accused the Guess cofounder of sexual misconduct in January 2018. “It’s disappointing that such an iconic women’s brand @GUESS is still empowering Paul Marciano as their creative director #metoo,” the model tweeted. Upton shared her tweet on Instagram and added, “He shouldn’t be allowed to use his power in the industry to sexually and emotionally harass women #metoo.” The fashion designer denied Upton’s accusations to TMZ.

Aziz Ansari

A 23-year-old photographer came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the comedian in a story posted to the website Babe.net in January 2018. Speaking anonymously as "Grace," she detailed a date with the actor that she described as “the worst night of my life,” alleging that he was sexually coercive when the two went back to his apartment. The Parks and Recreation alum addressed the claims the next day in a statement to Us Weekly. "The next day, I got a text from her saying that although ‘it may have seemed OK,’ upon further reflection, she felt uncomfortable,” he said. “It was true that everything did seem OK to me, so when I heard that it was not the case for her, I was surprised and concerned. I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said. I continue to support the movement that is happening in our culture. It is necessary and long overdue.” Despite being nominated for his role in Master of None, Ansari skipped the 2018 SAG Awards one week following the allegations.

Steven Seagal

Seagal was accused of sexually assaulting an extra named Regina Simons on the set of On Deadly Ground in 2005. Variety reported in January 2018 that the Los Angeles Police Department opened an investigation against the actor. The Wrap adds that former model Faviola Dadis also accused Seagal of groping her during an audition at a hotel room in 2002. Several other women, including Portia de Rossi, Julianna Margulies and Katherine Heigl, have previously accused Seagal of sexual misconduct over the years, according to Variety. He has denied some of those claims.

Michael Douglas

The actor denied sexual harassment allegations in an interview with Deadline on January 9, 2018. He came forward preemptively after being contacted by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter about claims of sexual misconduct made against him by a former employee he worked with 30 years ago. "This is a complete lie, fabrication, no truth to it whatsoever," he said. “I’d confess to anything I thought I was responsible for.”

James Franco

The controversy surrounding the actor first began when Ally Sheedy called him out after he won at the Golden Globes in January 2018. “Why is James Franco allowed in? … Please never ever ask me why I left the film/tv business," she wrote in since-deleted tweets. Sheedy didn’t go into detail, but some women went on to accuse him on Twitter of sexual misconduct. Five more women later accused Franco in a Los Angeles Times report of inappropriate and sexually exploitative behavior, with one claiming he pressured her into performing oral sex on him. His attorney denied the claims.

“The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long,” the Deuce star told Stephen Colbert. “The way I live my life, I can’t live if there’s restitution to be made. I will make it. So if I’ve done something wrong, I will fix it.”

In June 2021, The Interview actor agreed to settle a class-action sexual misconduct lawsuit for $2.2 million, per The Hollywood Reporter. The suit was filed in 2020 and alleged that Franco pushed students into performing explicit sex scenes on camera.

Ben Vereen

Multiple actresses came forward in January 2018 with sexual misconduct claims against the 71-year-old Broadway legend during the 2015 production of Hair at the Venice Theatre in Florida. They detailed the accusations to the New York Daily News which prompted Vereen to respond. “I would like to apologize directly to the female cast members of the musical ‘Hair’ for my inappropriate conduct when I directed the production in 2015,” he wrote on Twitter.

Paul Haggis

Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis has been accused of sexual misconduct by four women, including two rapes. After publicist Haleigh Breest filed a lawsuit in December charging Haggis with rape, the Associated Press reported in January 2018 that three additional women were prompted to come forward. The Crash screenwriter has denied all of the claims made accused him. His lawyer denied the latest accusations to the AP, saying, “He didn’t rape anybody.”

Jeff Franklin

The Full House and Fuller House creator was dropped from the Netflix series in February 2018 after a report from Variety detailed complaints of alleged inappropriate behavior. “We are not renewing Jeff Franklin’s production deal and he will no longer be working on Fuller House,” Warner Bros. TV said in a statement. The showrunner was accused of being “verbalizing abusive to staffers” as well as making suggestive comments about his sex life in the writers' room of the comedy. Employees made complaints that Franklin would bring women he dated to the set and give them small roles on the show. Variety’s report does point out that he is not accused of “directly sexually harassing or engaging in physical misconduct with any staffers.” His attorney declined to comment. Franklin took to Instagram to say goodbye to the cast and the show’s fans, sharing a photo with cast members Candace Cameron Bure, Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin. He wrote: “I’m heartbroken to be leaving Fuller House. Creating and running Full House and Fuller House has been the greatest joy. I wish the cast, my second family for over 30 years, continued success. I’m so proud of all we accomplished together, and beyond grateful to our loyal fans. Adios Tanneritos!”

Philip Berk

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced in February 2018 that they were investigating the accusations made by actor Brendan Fraser who said he was sexually assaulted by the former president of the organization, Philip Berk. The Mummy actor claimed in a GQ interview that Berk sexually assaulted him in the summer of 2003. Fraser said his alleged encounter with Berk is one of the reasons he stepped away from the spotlight. “The HFPA stands firmly against sexual harassment and the type of behavior described in this article,” the HFPA said in a statement to Us Weekly at the time. “Over the years we’ve continued a positive working relationship with Brendan, which includes announcing Golden Globe nominees, attending the ceremony and participating in press conferences. This report includes alleged information that the HFPA was previously unaware of and at this time we are investigating further details surrounding the incident.” Berk denied the accusations made by Fraser. “Mr. Fraser’s version is a total fabrication,” Berk said in a statement to GQ. “My apology admitted no wrongdoing, the usual ‘If I’ve done anything that upset Mr. Fraser, it was it was not intended and I apologize.’”

Mohamed Hadid

Model Miranda Vee accused Gigi and Bella Hadid’s father of date rape in a lengthy Instagram post in February 2018: “Thank you @kateupton it is time people like @paulmarciano & @mohamedhadid get exposed for who they really are! I met with paul at his @guess headquarters that is actually a apartment where he sexually harassed me & after that passed me on to his friend mohammed who was going to meet me for ‘coffee’ i thought it was a professional meeting but It was just me, him & champagne where he date raped me in a apartment. All to get a test shoot for guess."

Mike Isabella

The Top Chef star, who competed on season 6 of the Bravo reality series, was sued in March 2018 for alleged sexual harassment by his former manager Chloe Caras. The lawsuit, which named Isabella and four of his business partners, claims that they groped her, called her “bitch” and “w—re” and remarked on the size of her buttocks. “Women generally do not make it into the higher management ranks of Mr. Isabella’s establishments and when Ms. Caras did, she became the target of extraordinary sex-based hostility and abuse,” reads the lawsuit, obtained by The Washington Post. Isabella is denying the allegations made against him and his team, Eater reported.

Tom Brokaw

Two former NBC News employees accused the longtime network anchor of sexual harassment in April 2018. Linda Vester claimed to Variety that Brokaw made unwanted advances and tried to kiss her on multiple occasions in the 1990s. A second woman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, alleged to The Washington Post that the veteran journalist put her hands on his chest and then invited her to his office, an offer that she refused. Brokaw denied Vester’s allegations in a statement: “I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC. The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda’s allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her at that time or any other.”

Bill Cosby

Cosby was convicted on three counts of indecent aggravated assault in April 2018 for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. The verdict came 10 months after a jury initially failed to reach a unanimous verdict in the case against him.

Dozens of women, including model Janice Dickinson, previously came forward with allegations against The Cosby Show alum. He has maintained his innocence during both trials.

Following his conviction for sexual assault in 2018, the Cosby Show alum was released from prison in June 2021 and his conviction was overturned. Us confirmed that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reached an agreement with a previous prosecutor that prevented the comedian from being charged, meaning that Cosby was released from state prison. Cosby served two years of his three to 10-year sentence.

Stan Lee

The former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics was accused of sexual misconduct by a massage therapist. Maria Carballo claimed in April 2018 that he acted inappropriately with her during two separate sessions in 2017.

Mario Batali

The celebrity chef was accused by four different women of sexual misconduct in an investigative report by Eater. One woman claimed that he rubbed his hands over her breasts at a party after she spilled wine on her chest when someone bumped into her; a second alleged he grabbed her breasts after she stopped working for him; another told Eater he groped her, and a fourth claimed he repeatedly grabbed her from behind and held her tightly against him. While Batali said in a statement to Eater that he didn't know who the individuals making the allegations are, he admitted that the behavior matches how he's acted. "That behavior was wrong and there are no excuses. I take full responsibility and I am deeply sorry for any pain, humiliation or discomfort I have caused." Batali also announced that he was stepping away from his restaurants. ABC also said in a statement to Us Weekly that the network has asked The Chew cohost to "step away from The Chew while we review the allegations that have just recently come to attention."

In May 2018, the New York Police Department announced it was investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against Batali after the celebrity chef was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting an unnamed woman. The woman, who appeared on the May 20 episode of 60 Minutes, claimed the incident took place at a Manhattan restaurant, where she joined the TV personality for a glass of wine. She says she spoke to the police about the experience at the time but never filed a report. Batali released a statement to CBS saying, ”I vehemently deny the allegation that I sexually assaulted this woman."

Morgan Freeman

Eight women accused the Oscar winner of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior in an investigative report published by CNN in May 2018. One young production assistant claimed that Freeman once “kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear” on the set of the 2017 film Going in Style. Meanwhile, a senior member of the production staff for the 2013 movie Now You See Me alleged that the actor made numerous comments about her and her female assistant’s bodies.

Freeman responded to the allegations in a statement to Us: “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.”

Luc Besson

Parisian authorities launched a rape investigation into the French director of films including The Fifth Element, Nikita, and Leon: The Professional, CNN reported on May 20, 2018. French radio station Europe 1 reported that an actress told authorities that the incident allegedly took place at the luxury Bristol Hotel in Paris on May 17. Europe 1 reported that the woman claimed she had "drunk a cup of tea, then felt unwell and lost consciousness." She alleged that when she came to, she remembered being sexually assaulted. Besson's lawyer told AFP that the director who has been married four times, including to Milla Jovovich, "categorically denies" the allegations, adding that the unnamed actress is "someone he knows, towards whom he has never behaved inappropriately."

Nev Schulman

Schulman was accused of sexual misconduct in May 2018 and production on his show Catfish was temporarily paused. “We take these allegations very seriously. We’re working with Critical Content, our third party production company, to conduct a thorough investigation,” MTV told Us in a statement. Catfish resumed production the next month after the network determined that the allegations against Schulman were not credible. “Although we never received a formal complaint, MTV and Critical Content immediately engaged an independent third party investigator,” an MTV spokesperson told Us at the time. “The independent investigator found the allegations made in the YouTube videos to be not credible and without merit.”

Eric Schneiderman

Four women - two of whom spoke out on record, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam - accused New York’s attorney general of “nonconsensual physical violence” in an expose published in the New Yorker on May 7, 2018. In a statement, Schneiderman told Us Weekly, “In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity. I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross.” Shortly afterward he released a statement announcing his resignation. "In the last several hours, serious allegations, which I strongly contest, have been made against me," Schneiderman said in a statement. "While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office's work at this critical time. I therefore resign my office, effective at the close of business on May 8, 2018."

Thomas Ravenel

Former model and real estate agent Ashley Perkins claimed the Southern Charm star sexually assaulted her mother, Debbie Holloway Perkins, after they matched on Tinder in 2015. Ravenel’s lawyer responded to the allegations in a statement to Us Weekly on May 3, 2018: ”My client enjoys a certain degree of fame and unfortunately has become — unfairly — a target for an individual who has, in my opinion, dubious motivations.”

Les Moonves

CBS launched an investigation against its CEO Moonves on July 27, 2018, following allegations of sexual harassment by six women, including actress Illeana Douglas and writer Janet Jones, that were published in a New Yorker exposé. Four of the women claimed to the magazine that Moonves, who has been an outspoken advocate for the #MeToo movement, “forcibly” touched or kissed them during business meetings. Two also claimed Moonves “physically intimidated them or threatened to derail their careers.” In a statement to Us, the network said, “All allegations of personal misconduct are to be taken seriously.” CBS’ board of directors said Moonves will keep his role for the time being as an outside counsel conducts an independent investigation.

Moonves gave his own statement to The New Yorker: “I recognize that there were times decades ago when I may have made some women uncomfortable by making advances. Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely. But I always understood and respected — and abided by the principle — that ‘no’ means ‘no,’ and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone’s career.” The TV exec’s wife, Julie Chen, also posted a statement on Twitter defending her husband: “Leslie is a good man and loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader. He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being. I fully support my husband and stand behind him and his statement.”

Gérard Depardieu

A French judicial official told the Associated Press in August 2018 that the French actor was accused of rape and sexual assault. French newspaper Le Parisien reported that the woman who accused Depardieu is a comedian and dancer. He denied all of the allegations against him through his lawyer, Herve Temime.

Nick Carter

Singer Melissa Schuman first accused the Backstreet Boys singer of rape in a detailed blog post shared in November. She claimed the “Everybody” singer, then 22, performed oral sex on her, despite her refusals, in a bathroom at his apartment in Santa Monica. He then allegedly forced her to do the same to him before taking her into his bedroom and raping her. She was 18 at the time. The boy bander denied the claims in a statement to Us Weekly. “I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual,” he said. “We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally. This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”

Garrison Keillor

Syndicated radio host Garrison Keillor confirmed in November 2018 that he was let go by Minnesota Public Radio after allegations of harassment surfaced against him. In an email to the Associated Press, Keillor claimed that his employment was terminated “over a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version MPR heard.” MPR President Jon McTaggart said in a statement saying that the network believes "this decision is the right thing to do and is necessary to continue to earn the trust of our audience, employees and supporters of our public service."

Geoffrey Rush

Yael Stone accused the Australian actor of sexual misconduct in December 2018, claiming to The New York Times that Rush mistreated her while they worked together on the theater production of The Diary of a Madman in 2010 and 2011 in Sydney. The Orange Is the New Black actress alleged that Rush sent her inappropriate text messages, touched her “in a very sensual manner” at an award show and once held up a mirror to spy on her while she was taking a shower at the theater. Rush denied the allegations.

Casey Affleck

The Oscar winner was accused of sexual misconduct on the set of his mockumentary I’m Still Here back in 2010, which ultimately led to his settling of two civil lawsuits. Affleck stayed mum on the topic until an August 2018 interview when he told the Associated Press, “[I’m Still Here] was an unprofessional environment and, you know, the buck had to stop with me being one of the producers, and I have to accept responsibility for that and that was a mistake. I contributed to that unprofessional environment and I tolerated that kind of behavior from other people and I wish that I hadn’t. And I regret a lot of that. I really did not know what I was responsible for as the boss. I don’t even know if I thought of myself as the boss. But I behaved in a way and allowed others to behave in a way that was really unprofessional. And I’m sorry.”

Scott Baio

The former Happy Days star, denied on January 27, 2017, that he molested his Charles in Charge costar Nicole Eggert when she was a minor. The Baywatch alum claimed in a series of tweets that Baio digitally penetrated her, starting at the age of 14 until she was 17. In a Facebook live video, Baio denied the allegations and said his "reputation was being damaged" by Eggert's claims, but he did acknowledge that they had consensual sex when she was at least 18 years old. "The problem with almost all he said-she said cases is they're he said-she said. Now, go prove it or disprove it," he said in the video. "The real problem with this is people with legitimate claims aren't taken seriously — and that’s too bad."

Andy Dick

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedian allegedly groped people’s genitals, kissed and licked people’s cheeks and made sexual proposals to at least four members of his upcoming film Raising Buchanan’s production team.  “I might have kissed somebody on the cheek to say goodbye and then licked them. That’s my thing — I licked Carrie Fisher at a roast. It’s me being funny. I’m not trying to sexually harass people. I didn’t grab anybody’s genitals,” Dick told THR. “Of course I’m going to proposition people. I’m single, depressed, lonely and trying to get a date. They can just say no, and they probably did and then I was done. The comedian has also since been accused of groping a woman in Los Angeles back in April. The alleged victim claims Dick squeezed her buttocks and made inappropriate comments as she walked by him. According to documents obtained by Us Weekly on July 2, 2018, Dick is facing misdemeanor sexual and simple battery charges.

Oliver Stone

Patricia Arquette took to Twitter on October 13, 2017, to detail an uncomfortable past experience she had with the director in which he sent her flowers after a meeting and shortly after allegedly stopped her from coming out of a bathroom to ask her why she brought her boyfriend to a screening of one of his films. One day earlier, Playboy model Carrie Stevens revealed that she was allegedly sexually harassed in the past by Stone.

Harvey Weinstein

More than 70 women, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and Angelina Jolie have accused the former studio head of sexual harassment or assault. In the wake of the allegations, Weinstein was fired from his own company and expelled by the Television Academy, and his wife of 10 years, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him. Weinstein, who denies all allegations of rape against him, checked into a treatment center, but left after one week, Us Weekly confirmed on October 20, 2017. Weinstein turned himself into authorities on May 25, 2018, on charges involving actress Lucia Evans and another unidentified woman. He appeared in court on June 5 and pleaded not guilty to felony rape charges.

Kevin Spacey

Actor Anthony Rapp claimed in an interview with BuzzFeed News on October 29, 2017, that the two-time Oscar winner made sexual advances toward him in 1985 when Rapp was 14 years old. Less than a week later, eight current and former House of Cards employees came forward to CNN to allege that Spacey had sexually harassed or assaulted them. On November 8, 2017, Heather Unruh, a former Boston TV news anchor claimed Spacey sexually assaulted her then 18-year-old son Will Little at a Nantucket bar in July 2016. In light of the allegations, Spacey is seeking unspecified treatment. “Kevin Spacey is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment,” a representative for the star said in a statement to Us on November 2, 2017. “No other information is available at this time.”

Asia Argento

Musician Jimmy Bennett told The New York Times in August that Argento, who played Bennett’s mom in the 2004 film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, sexually assaulted him in a hotel room in Marina del Rey, California, in 2013. The publication also obtained court documents sent between laywers for Argento and Bennett that claimed she had arranged to pay the child actor $380,000. Argento, considered to be a leader in the #MeToo movement after speaking out against her own alleged rapist, Harvey Weinstein, in October 2017, denied the allegations to New York magazine in August. “I am deeply shocked and hurt having read the news that is absolutely false,” she said at the time. “I have never had any sexual relationship with Bennett.”

She later accused him of sexually assaulting her on the night in question, a claim his lawyer, Gordon K. Sattro, denied exclusively to Us Weekly in September 2017. “If I were to sum up the letter from Asia and her attorney in a single word it would be ‘hypocritical,’ with a close second being ‘non-sensical,” he told Us. “We read this statement as a self-serving and slanderous one which is offensive, not only to my client, but in all likelihood to victims both silent and outspoken, everywhere. It would seem that Asia is implying that her truth is the actual truth because of her perceived position in this all too important movement and a delusional view of her own importance to it.”

James Toback

The Los Angeles Times published an exposé on October 22, 2017, in which more than 30 women came forward to accuse the Oscar nominee of sexual harassment. The Times reports that Toback denied the allegations, saying that he had never met any of the women making the accusations against him, or if he did, it “was for five minutes and have no recollection.”

Charlie Rose

Eight women — three on record and five anonymously — came forward in November 2017, with multiple allegations against the CBS This Morning host. All of the women, employees of or aspiring to work on the Charlie Rose show from the late 1990s to 2011, shared similar experiences with The Washington Post. Rose was officially fired on November 21 following the claims. “A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News effective immediately,” CBS News President David Rhodes said in a statement. “This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program. Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace — a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work. We need such a place.” 

Rose apologized to the eight women in a statement. “In my 45 years in journalism, I have prided myself on being an advocate for the careers of the women with whom I have worked,” he told The Washington Post. “Nevertheless, in the past few days, claims have been made about my behavior toward some former female colleagues. It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.” Twenty-seven more women accused Rose of sexual harassment in May 2018. In response, Rose told The Washington Post: "Your story is unfair and inaccurate."

Russell Simmons

The Def Jam Recordings cofounder stepped down from his businesses after screenwriter Jenny Lument accused him of sexually assaulting her in 1991. “While [Lument’s] memory of that evening is very different from mine, it is now clear to me that her feelings of fear and intimidation are real,” he said in a statement to Us Weekly in November 2017. “While I have never been violent, I have been thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades and I sincerely and humbly apologize. This is a time of great transition. The voices of the voiceless, those who have been hurt or shamed, deserve and need to be heard. As the corridors of power inevitably make way for a new generation, I don’t want to be a distraction so I am removing myself from the businesses that I founded. The companies will now be run by a new and diverse generation of extraordinary executives who are moving the culture and consciousness forward. … As for me, I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening.”

Johnny Iuzzini

Celebrity chef Johnny Iuzzini has been accused of sexual harassment by four women who worked with him at Jean-Georges, according to Mic. The women who came forward claimed that the pastry chef harassed them in the workplace between 2009-2011. In a statement to Mic, Iuzzini said that he was “shattered and heartbroken” by the allegations, several of which he denied.

The Today show host was fired by NBC overnight after the network received a "detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer." Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced the news during the program on November 29, 2017.

Ed Westwick

Kristina Cohen was first to make a claim against the Gossip Girl actor on November 6, 2017. The actress posted on her Facebook page and then later filed a police report against him with the Los Angeles Police Department claiming he had raped her three years prior. Westwick denied the allegations in an Instagram post. “I do not know this woman,” he wrote. “I have never forced myself in any manner, on any woman. I certainly have never committed rape.” Actress Aurélie Wynn came forward on November 8, 2017, also taking to Facebook to detail an alleged encounter of sexual assault she had with the actor. Westwick denied this allegation as well, saying he has “absolutely not … had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct,” and said he was cooperating with the authorities in order to clear his name.

Jeremy Piven

Eight women have accused the actor of sexual misconduct. Three women came forward in January 2018 in a Buzzfeed report with allegations of sexual misconduct against the former Entourage star, after he denied previous claims made against him in November 2017. Piven responded to the three women’s claims in a statement to the publication: “These allegations, which in one case goes back more than 30 years and the two others more than 20 years ago, are false. As evidenced by the lie detector test I took and passed, I have never forced myself on anyone, nor have I ever exposed myself or restrained anyone against their will. To the contrary, if any woman ever said no, I stopped.”

Louis C.K.

After five women came forward to accuse the comedian of sexual misconduct, Louis C.K. released a statement admitting to the allegations. “I want to address the stories told to The New York Times by five women named Abby, Rebecca, Dana, Julia who felt able to name themselves and one who did not,” he said in a lengthy statement to Us Weekly on November 10, 2017. “These stories are true. At the time, I said to myself that what I did was OK because I never showed a woman my dick without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly.”

Jeffrey Tambor

Following the Transparent star’s former assistant reportedly accusing him of inappropriate behavior in a private Facebook post, Amazon is conducting an investigation into the allegations. Tambor denied the allegations, telling Deadline, saying:  “I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behavior toward this person or any other person I have ever worked with. I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation.” In November 2017, a second allegation surfaced, with Tambor's Transparent co-star Trace Lysette claiming the Arrested Development alum had cornered her and thrust himself back and forth against her body. Later that month, Tambor announced in a statement to Us that he was quitting Transparent. "I've already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue," he said. "Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don't see how I can return to Transparent."

Brett Ratner

Olivia Munn and five other women spoke to the Los Angeles Times in a piece published on November 1, 2017, to accuse the director of sexual harassment or misconduct. Ratner’s attorney, Marty Singer, has denied all allegations against his client. “I have represented Mr. Ratner for two decades, and no woman has ever made a claim against him for sexual misconduct or sexual harassment,” Singer said in a 10-page letter to The Times. “Furthermore, no woman has ever requested or received any financial settlement from my client.”

Gary Goddard

ER star Anthony Edwards wrote an essay on Medium, titled  “Yes Mom, There is Something Wrong: From Victim to Survivor,” on November 10, 2017, about his alleged encounters with the producer. “I was molested by Goddard, my best friend was raped by him — and this went on for years,” he wrote. “22 years ago, I happened to run into Gary Goddard … I was able to express my outrage at what he had done. He swore to his remorse and said that he had gotten help. I felt a temporary sense of relief. I say temporary because when Goddard appeared in the press four years ago for alleged sexual abuse, my rage resurfaced.” Goddard's publicist released a statement to Deadline later that day saying, "I can unequivocally deny them on Gary's behalf."

Aly Raisman claims in a 60 Minutes interview airing on November 12, 2017, that the former USA Gymnastics doctor sexually abused her. McKayla Maroney and Sydney bronze medalist Jamie Dantzscher have also accused the former doctor – who already facing 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct at the time of Raisman's claim. He is serving a 60-year sentence in prison after pleading guilty to federal child pornography charges – of sexual misconduct and harassment.

George Takei

Longtime actor George Takei was accused of sexual assault by former model Scott R. Brunton in an interview with the The Hollywood Reporter in November 2017. Brunton alleged that Takei groped him while hanging out at the Star Trek actor’s condo in 1981. Takei denied the allegations in a series of tweets: “Friends, I'm writing to respond to the accusations made by Scott R. Bruton. I want to assure you all that I am as shocked and bewildered at these claims as you must feel reading them.The events he describes back in the 1980s simply did not occur, and I do not know why he has claimed them now. I have wracked my brain to ask if I remember Mr. Brunton, and I cannot say I do. But I do take these claims very seriously, and I wanted to provide my response thoughtfully and not out of the moment. Right now it is a he said / he said situation, over alleged events nearly 40 years ago. But those that know me understand that non-consensual acts are so antithetical to my values and my practices, the very idea that someone would accuse me of this is quite personally painful. Brad, who is 100 percent beside me on this, as my life partner of more than 30 years and now my husband, stands fully by my side. I cannot tell you how vital it has been to have his unwavering support and love in these difficult times. Thanks to many of you for all the kind words and trust. It means so much to us. Andrew Kreisberg

Supergirl and The Flash co-showrunner and Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg, was accused of sexual harassment by 19 different men and women in a story detailed by Variety. Warner Brothers suspended production on the various television shows in November 2017. Kreisberg denied the allegations to Variety, and Arrow’s Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards, Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz took to social media to offer support to sexual harassment victims after the allegations.

Richard Dreyfuss

A writer who worked with Richard Dreyfuss in the 1980s, Jessica Teich, alleged the Jaws actor exposed himself to her in an interview with Vulture in November 2017. The allegations came after Dreyfuss applauded his son Harry Dreyfuss for speaking out against Kevin Spacey. Dreyfuss denied the allegations to Vulture, but admitted he was once an “asshole” and “flirt.”

Benny Medina

Manager Benny Medina, who is best known for managing Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Will Smith, was accused of attempting to rape actor Jason Dottley in 2008. The Sordid Lives actor detailed the allegations to The Advocate in November 2017. Medina’s attorney said Medina “categorically denies the allegation of attempted rape.”

Tom Sizemore

The Pearl Harbor actor was allegedly sent home from the set of 2003’s Born Killers movie after an 11-year-old girl complained that he touched her genitals, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the story posted online in November 2017, a dozen cast and crew confirmed the incident to THR, saying that it took place towards the end of filming when the young girl, who had a small role in the film, was required to sit on Sizemore’s lap during a photo session for a scene in the film. Sizemore allegedly either rubbed his finger against the girl’s vagina or inserted it, THR reports. The girl subsequently told her mother what happened and Catrine McGregor, the casting director, was informed. McGregor filed a complaint with SAG’s legal department and advocated for Sizemore to be fired from the film. The film’s producers dismissed Sizemore from the set as soon as they heard the claim and reviewed the photographs from the photo shoot but found them inconclusive. The parents talked to police but declined to press charges. The Saving Private Ryan actor’s agent told THR, “Our position is ‘no comment.'”

Geraldo Rivera

Bette Midler took to social media to post an old interview with Barbara Walters where she told a story about how Rivera groped her when they first met. “Geraldo and his producer came to do an interview with me in the ‘70s, the early ‘70s,” Midler told Walters in 1991. “This was when he was very — sort of hot — and he and his producer left the crew in the other room, they pushed me into my bathroom, they broke two poppers and pushed them under my nose and proceeded to grope me.” The former talk show host then publicly apologized to Midler on Twitter. “Although I recall the time @BetteMidler has alluded to much differently than she, that does not change the fact that she has a right to speak out & demand an apology from me, for in the very least, publically embarrassing her all those years ago. Bette, I apologize,” he tweeted in December 2017.

Mark Schwahn

The creator of One Tree Hill has been accused of sexual misconduct by stars Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush and 16 other women who worked on the CW series during its 2003-2012 run. The ladies released a letter to Variety, which read, “Mark Schwahn’s behavior over the duration of the filming of One Tree Hill was something of an ‘open secret.’ Many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally. More than one of us is still in treatment for post-traumatic stress. Many of us were put in uncomfortable positions and had to swiftly learn to fight back, sometimes physically, because it was made clear to us that the supervisors in the room were not the protectors they were supposed to be. Many of us were spoken to in ways that ran the spectrum from deeply upsetting, to traumatizing, to downright illegal. And a few of us were put in positions where we felt physically unsafe. More than one woman on our show had her career trajectory threatened.” Schwahn had yet to respond at the time while he worked on the E! series The Royals. The network, Universal Cable Productions and Lionsgate Television, the companies behind the show, said in a statement on Monday that they “are monitoring the information carefully.”

Danny Masterson

Five women have accused the actor of sexual misconduct after Bobbette Riales, who dated The Ranch star in the early 2000s, tweeted in December 2017, claiming that he “repeatedly raped” her. “I stayed quiet long enough. Danny Masterson repeatedly raped me. All I seek is justice and to prevent this from ever happening to anyone else as it has for some time. My truth will be heard. I applaud her strength as well,” Riales tweeted also tagging Chrissie Bixler, one of the other women who previously accused Masterson of rape. Masterson has been under investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since March when four women, including Chrissie, claimed he raped them. Netflix fired the actor from his show. The former That ‘70s Show star has formerly denied all previous allegations. “I am obviously very disappointed in Netflix’s decision to write my character off of The Ranch. From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit,” Masterson told Us Weekly in a statement. “I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, in the current climate, it seems as if you are presumed guilty the moment you are accused. I understand and look forward to clearing my name once and for all. In the meantime, I want to express my gratitude to the cast and crew that I’ve worked so closely with over the past three seasons. I wish them nothing but success. I am also so thankful to the fans that have supported me and continue to do so.”

Bryan Singer

The director was sued in December 2017 for allegedly raping Cesar Sanchez-Guzman in 2003 when he was only 17. In the complaint obtained by Us Weekly, Sanchez-Guzman claimed that he had been invited to a party on Lester Waters‘ yacht where he met Singer. The director then offered to give him a tour. “During this tour, Singer lured Cesar into a room, shut the door and demanded that Cesar perform oral sex,” the lawsuit reads. “Cesar refused and then Singer forced him into acts of oral and anal sex.” Singer “categorically denies these allegations and will vehemently defend this lawsuit to the very end,” a representative for him told Us Weekly in a statement.

Dustin Hoffman

The actor was accused of sexual harassment by three women in a report published by Variety on December 14. One accuser named Cori Thomas, told the outlet that Hoffman exposed himself to her in a New York City hotel room in 1980 when she was 16 years old. Thomas, who was friends with Hoffman’s daughter, Karina, when they were in high school together, claimed that she waited for her mother to pick her up from the Rain Man actor’s hotel room after spending the day with him and Karina in the city. “He came out of the bathroom with a towel at first wrapped around him, which he dropped,” she told Variety. “He was standing there naked.” Another accuser, Melissa Kester, alleged that Hoffman sexually assaulted her while they were recording audio for the film Ishtar. Speaking to Variety anonymously, a third woman claimed that Hoffman also assaulted her while working on Ishtar. The accuser also claimed that she and Hoffman had shared previous consensual sexual encounters. Then, former production intern Anna Graham Hunter accused Hoffman of sexual harassment on the set of Death of a Salesman in 1985. Hunter detailed the alleged misconduct in a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter in November 2017. The Oscar winner responded to the allegations in a statement to THR: “I have the upmost respect for women and feel terrible that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation. The comedian was accused of sexually assaulting and punching a woman while attending George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in the early 2000s. The Silicon Valley alum’s alleged victim shared her account in an interview with The Daily Beast published in December 2017. “He just tried a lot of things without asking me, and at no point asked me if I was all right,” claimed the woman, who asked to remain anonymous and used the pseudonym Sarah. “He choke[d] me, and I kept staring at his face hoping he would see that I was afraid and [that he] would stop … I couldn’t say anything.” Miller’s Comedy Central series The Gorburger Show was canceled hours after the allegations were made public.

Miller and his wife, Kate Miller, released a statement on her Twitter account. “We stand together in stating this is nothing more than an unfortunate resurgence of her lies designed to wreak havoc on two happily married people in the public eye. … Sadly she is now using the current climate to bandwagon and launch these false accusations again. It is unfortunate that she is choosing this route as it undermines the important movement to make women feel safe coming forward about legitimate claims against real known predators.”

Gene Simmons

The Kiss guitarist issued a statement in December 2017 denying allegations that he groped and made unwanted advances toward a radio personality in November. A woman filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming that Simmons grabbed her hand and "forcefully placed it on his knee and held it on his knee" before she removed it. The lawsuit also states that he turned standard interview questions "into sexual innuendos," which made the plaintiff extremely uncomfortable. She also claims he touched her behind. "Friends, I intend to defend myself against any alleged charges you may have been reading about in the media," Simmons said in a statement to Us on December 16. "For the record, I did not assault the person making these accusations in the manner alleged in the complaint or harm her in any way. I am conferring with my lawyers with the aim of vigorously countering these allegations. And, I look forward to my day in court where the evidence will prove my innocence." The alleged victim and the KISS frontman later reached a settlement, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly.

Bruce Weber

Male model Jason Boyce claimed in a lawsuit obtained by the New York Post and The Blast in December 2017 that he was sexually harassed by the famed photographer during a photo shoot in New York City in December 2014. Weber, who is known for his ad campaigns for Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, allegedly removed Boyce’s underwear and later placed his hand over the model’s genitals. Boyce claimed that Weber also kissed him on the lips. Weber’s rep did not immediately respond for comment.
