‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Stars React After Luke Perry Dies at 52 Following Massive Stroke

West Beverly forever. Luke Perry’s former Beverly Hills, 90210 costars are paying tribute to the actor after he died on Monday, March 4, days after suffering a massive stroke. He was 52 years old. Perry starred as bad boy Dylan McKay for the first six seasons of Beverly Hills, 90210 before exiting the show in 1995. He later reprised his role for the final two seasons. Less than a week before Perry's death, FOX announced Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling are set to return for a six-episode 90210 quasi-revival. The official Instagram account for the new series released a statement on Monday: "Luke will always be part of the FOX family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this extremely difficult time. He will be deeply missed." The actor had a stroke at his Los Angeles-area home on Wednesday, February 27. The Riverdale star’s rep confirmed his passing in a statement to Us Weekly on Monday: “[Perry] was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. Brian Austin Green

While the actor, who played David Silver, did not publicly honor Perry, he did respond to a fan who took notice of his social media silence. He replied on Instagram, “Carrie, the passing of Luke is terrible. As was said by many, everyone grieves in different ways. ... Everyone should respect everyone’s process.”

Tiffani Thiessen

Thiessen, who played Valerie Malone on the FOX series, paid tribute to her late costar three days after his death. “My heart has been weighing heavy. The loss of a man who started as my co-star but quickly became my friend,” the Saved by the Bell alum captioned a black-and-white throwback picture of the pair on Instagram. “He welcomed me on my very first day of #90210 with open arms. A day that was not an easy one for me. I was coming in to a show, a family really, that had been together for over 4 years. But this man took me under his wing and made me feel at home. Made me feel like I belonged in his TV family.'

She continued: “He was sincere, sweet, warm, kind, professional and funny as all heck. And most of all, the definition of a gentleman. Luke, our world has a hole in it now that you aren’t here. But heaven definitely gained you as an angel. #RIP #LukePerry #gonetoosoon.”

Jason Priestley

Three days after Perry’s death, the Call Me Fitz star broke his silence with a touching tribute to his former costar on March 7 via Instagram.

“It’s taken me a couple of days to figure out how to write this... My dear friend of 29 years, Luke Perry, was one of those truly special people who really cared…” Priestley, who starred as Brendan Walsh for eight and a half seasons on the ’90s drama, wrote alongside two photos of the actors. “Luke was not only a star, he was an incredibly bright light that was extinguished far too soon... and that is why I, and so many others, are in so much pain today…”

He added: “If you had the good fortune to know Luke, or to have ever crossed his path, I know you are sad today as well... the candle that burns twice as bright only burns for half as long... you burned oh, so brightly Luke... Goodnight Sweet Prince.”

Ian Ziering

Ziering starred as Steve Sanders for all 10 seasons of the series. “Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last thirty years,” he captioned a sweet photo with Perry via Instagram. “May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind.”

Three days after Perry’s passing, Ziering continued to share sweet photos and memories of him. “My inbox continues to overflow with notes of sorrow from around the world,” the Sharknado star wrote alongside a throwback photo from a Halloween episode of 90210 on March 7. “I share the same feelings of shock and loss with you all. My heart breaks for his kids, Jack and Sofie. #riplukeperry #sw Heaven 3/4/19.”

Hours later, Ziering posted a photo of Perry embracing a sick fan, simply writing, “He was this guy.”

Shannen Doherty

“Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me,” Doherty, who played Perry’s love interest Brenda Walsh from season 1-4, wrote on Tuesday, March 4, via Instagram. “I’m struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts. But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives. Processing this is impossible right now.”

The Charmed alum’s emotional message was shared alongside four sweet images of her and Perry, including a recent selfie and three photos of their 90210 characters.

Randy Spelling

Randy, whose late father, Aaron Spelling, produced Beverly Hills, 90210, made guest appearances as Steve’s little brother Ryan Sanders over the course of the series. “I’m heart-broken to hear about Luke today,” Tori Spelling’s younger brother wrote on Instagram. “My thoughts and good wishes go out to his family. A good guy with a good heart. You will be greatly missed Luke.”

Candy Spelling, who was married to Aaron from 1968 until he died in 2006, also paid tribute to the late actor via Instagram. “I join the world in mourning the passing of Luke Perry,” she wrote alongside a picture of Perry with Aaron, her daughter, Tori, Jason Priestly and Shannen Doherty from the 1992 People’s Choice Awards. “Aaron and I adored him and have wonderful memories of Luke on Beverly Hills 90210. My sincere condolences to his family. #RIPLukePerry #LukePerry.”

Rebecca Gayheart

Gayheart, who played Perry’s onscreen wife, Toni Marchette, during season 6, shared a series of photos via Instagram. “Just heartbroken 💔,” she captioned the images, which include two offscreen selfies and their characters' wedding portrait. “I need some time before commenting further. #rip #gonetoosoon #lukeperry #swipeleft.”

Gabrielle Carteris

Carteris, known for her role as Andrea Zuckerman on the FOX series, released a statement to Us Weekly. “I am absolutely heartbroken. Luke was a tremendous force in the lives of so many. He was a very sensitive soul who was kind, generous and he fought for the underdog,” the statement reads. “He was a strong voice and an advocate who will be so missed by all who knew him. He has left his mark – never to be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans around the globe.”

Kathleen Robertson

Robertson played Clare Arnold from seasons 4 to 7. “As a young girl from Hamilton Ontario coming onto the biggest show in the world mid stream, Luke welcomed me from day one,” she wrote alongside a black and white photo of Perry on Twitter. “My heart breaks. #lukeperry #90210.”

Emma Caulfield

“My first day on 90210 Luke brought me under his wings & made me feel welcome. His first words to me were ‘so how are the bitches treating you ?’ It made me laugh & I felt like I had an ally in my corner,” Caulfield, who joined the cast of 90210 as Susan Keats in 1995, wrote in a series of tweets. “You set a tone and made sure I could thrive. It was my first real gig and your kindness was rarely matched. God bless you Luke.  You’re with the rest of the angels. #RIPLukePerry you will be missed.” 

She added: “One last thing about Luke, in a time where the #metoo movement has cast a deserved light on the bad men who have mistreated women in Hollywood and elsewhere, let it be remembered that Luke was a real man- kind, supportive, open hearted vulnerable, strong, and fair. #RIPLukePerry.”

The actress, who played recurring character Emily Valentine on the ‘90s series, was the first 90210 alum to speak out. “With the heaviest of hearts, I am devastated to tell you we lost Luke. I am still in shock and I have no words beyond saying he was a truly kind gentleman,” McCarthy wrote alongside a throwback photo of Perry and Jason Priestley kissing her on the cheek. “He will be mourned and missed by everyone who know him and the millions who love him. RIP, dearie Luke. Your time here was far too short."
