Emily VanCamp
In April 2022, The Resident co-showrunner Peter Elkoff revealed that VanCamp would return as Nic for the show’s season 5 finale. The Revenge alum exited the show in October 2021 after her character was killed off following a car accident that left her brain dead. The Resident then had a three-year time jump, and Nic’s husband, Conrad (Matt Czuchry), has struggled with guilt about moving on with another woman.
“We started to realize, what would hold a person back? Well, the love of his life who died. The mother of his young daughter,” Elkoff told TVLine of the decision to bring VanCamp back. “We had to figure out a way to both free him and end that chapter. Emily was really up for the idea of coming back, so we built her story around that idea.”
