Michelle McGahan

Summary

When Associate Editor Michelle McGahan is not at Us Weekly‘s New York City office, she can be found either following her favorite bands on tour or watching a true crime documentary at her apartment in Connecticut. (It’s 50/50.) Michelle has devoured anything and everything pop culture-related since she was 8 years old, when she fell in love with the pop music landscape in the late ’90s. While making her way through every ’00s trend, she went on vacation to Los Angeles for the first time — a getaway that left her with stars in her eyes, determination to work in entertainment, and a chance encounter and photo with Keanu Reeves (who was the nicest). Though the siren call of L.A. will never fade, Michelle loves her New England home, with its local beaches in the summer and dazzling foliage in the fall. She is always discovering her new favorite hotspots and will jump at the chance to see the latest horror movie in theaters. Michelle is a strong advocate for mental health awareness and is all about the importance of self-care. She is currently working on nailing a handstand.

Work or writing background leading to expertise

Prior to joining the staff at Us Weekly, Michelle honed her editorial skills as an editor at Nicki Swift, as Editor of iHeartRadio’s Snapchat Discover channel and as an Associate Editor at PopCrush. Over the course of her career, Michelle has worked with her top favorite artists, traveled to L.A. and Vegas for music festivals and once basked in the glow of Harry Styles backstage.

Education

Michelle graduated cum laude from Drew University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, which she finds herself using a surprising amount in relation to celebrity culture and fandom. Did she go to college in New Jersey just for Wawa? It’s possible.

Work history

In addition to her editorial roles at Nicki Swift, iHeartRadio and PopCrush, Michelle has also written for POPSUGAR, Bustle, Redbook and more.
