George W. Bush is an American politician and businessman who served as the 43rd president of the United States from 2001 to 2009. He is the son of former president George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush. He was raised in Texas and attended Phillips Academy in Massachusetts before earning a degree in history from Yale University in 1968. After serving in the Texas Air National Guard, he obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1975.

George began his career in the oil industry before transitioning to politics. In 1989, he became part-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, a move that increased his public profile. In 1994, he was elected governor of Texas and served two terms before winning the presidency in 2000 after a controversial election against Al Gore. He was re-elected in 2004.

During his presidency, George navigated the country through key domestic and international events, including the response to the September 11 attacks, national security efforts, and education reform. His administration also managed crises such as Hurricane Katrina and the 2008 financial downturn.

Since leaving office, he has focused largely on philanthropy and painting, and he published a book of his own paintings called Portraits of Courage in 2017.

Bush married Laura Bush in 1977. The couple share twin daughters, Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager (born in 1981). He has five grandchildren.
