George H. W. Bush
George H. W. Bush was the 41st president of the United States and the father of 43rd president George W. Bush. The senior Bush was previously vice president under Ronald Reagan. George was raised in Massachusetts and attended Phillips Academy before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a naval aviator. After the war, he graduated from Yale University with a degree in economics.
George started his career in the Texas oil industry before moving into politics. He was elected to Congress in 1966 and later worked in international relations and national security roles. In 1980, he became Reagan’s vice president and served for eight years before winning the presidency in 1988.
As president, he oversaw the end of the Cold War, led the U.S. in the Gulf War and signed the Americans with Disabilities Act. He lost his 1992 reelection bid to Bill Clinton but remained active in public service.
George married Barbara Bush in 1945, and they were together for 73 years until her passing in 2018. They had six children, including George W. Bush, Robin, Jeb, Neil, Marvin and Doro.
He died on November 30, 2018, at the age of 94.
