Explaining herself! Kate Gosselin came to her own defense, explaining where her parenting style comes from.
“I am a very protective parent, as you probably know,” the reality star, 43, admitted at the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour on Tuesday, February 12, promoting her new dating reality show, Kate Plus Date. “It comes from a place of love. I do think that I care so deeply that I have been, at times, overzealous.”
But when it comes to her two eldest children, 18-year-old twins Mady and Cara, Gosselin doesn’t have to hover. “I don’t have to keep after them,” she said. “They’re self-driven. They have goals and dreams, and they’re just good kids. … With them turning 18 and going off to college soon, I don’t have to worry.”
Gosselin shares the twins with her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, as well as 14-year-old sextuplets Hannah, Collin, Leah, Aaden, Joel and Alexis.
She posted a photo of her brood all grown up in August 2018 for their first day of school. “Feels like school never ended … and they’re already back,” the TLC personality wrote. “#SeniorYear #EighthGrade #ProudMom.” Four of her sextuplets stood on the porch in school uniforms, along with Mady and Cara who matched in maroon. Collin and Hannah were missing from the shot.
Gosselin’s son was enrolled in a program away from home at the time, while Hannah lived with her father.
Jon shared a similar picture of his daughter on social media a week earlier, writing, “Congrats Hannah on your first day of school, proud of you. I admire your bravery starting fresh!!! I Love you very much and we have worked really hard to get here. Dedication has really paid off. I’m so happy you integrated yourself into the community, you made friends all summer and now you will grow and graduate with them. I’m honored to be your father!!! Love you, Dad #newbeginnings.”
