Nikki Bella’s 22-Hour Labor, Brie Bella’s Unique Baby Name and More of the Twins’ Birth Revelations

Not holding back! Nikki Bella and Brie Bella didn’t spare any details of their respective birth experiences. Nikki and Brie, both 36, candidly discussed the events surrounding their little boys’ arrivals on the Wednesday, September 2, episode of “The Bellas Podcast.” Among the topics discussed included Nikki’s 22-hour labor period. The Dancing With the Stars alum admitted that welcoming Matteo last month was “the hardest workout I’ve ever done in my entire life.” Nikki also claimed that she “almost” tore off the safety rails on the hospital bed. “I pushed so hard and on that last round, I pushed Matteo out,” she explained. “And he came out vaginally, and that was the most incredible feeling ever.” As many fans may now know, Brie revealed that she and her husband, Daniel Bryan, chose to name their son Buddy Dessert. The little one’s moniker was inspired by the 39-year-old pro wrestler’s father, who died in 2014. “They were best friends and he, unfortunately, died from a heart attack,” she explained. “So we both said if we have a boy, we’ll name him after his grandfather, Bryan’s dad Buddy.” [jwplayer wA2WPHMY-l3ahXupL] In January, the Incomparable authors announced that they were both pregnant at the same time — and due within one week of each other. Shortly after unveiling the pregnancy news, Nikki revealed that she and her fiancé, Artem Chigvintsev, conceived their son in the same exact place that Brie and Bryan had: at the married pair’s home. “I go to the doctor, I find out that I have very high testosterone and very low estrogen and I have PCOS [polycystic ovary syndrome]. They told me that the day I would want to have babies, I probably would actually need help,” she said in February. “I was in the discussion of freezing my eggs. It was right around Halloween, a day or so after, [and Artem and I had unprotected sex] two nights straight in the moment because I’m like, ‘I can’t get pregnant. I need help.’” The reality star added, “By the way, I love it because it happened at Brie and Bryan’s house, but whatever. It was while we were staying with you guys.” Nikki was the first to give birth on July 31, and Brie followed the very next day. This marked Nikki’s first pregnancy with Chigvintsev, while Brie and Bryan already share 3-year-old daughter Birdie. Cameras Rolling

The famous sisters’ deliveries occurred as they were in the midst of filming for their E! reality series, Total Bellas. “I have to say, at first I didn’t know how I’d feel with, like, cameras,” Nikki admitted. “We have an incredible showrunner … and she’s just been such a rockstar. Her and her partner have quarantined for us. So they captured quite a bit.”

Beating Her to the Punch

Nikki headed into labor a bit earlier than she intended — and she was even at the doctor for a routine appointment when her water broke. “Brie was right there and then [the doctor] was like, ‘Go home, get Artem, you have a few hours ‘til you have to be at the hospital.’ I just couldn’t believe it was happening,” she explained.

Brie admitted that she was also shocked that Nikki went into labor before her, adding, “My jaw dropped … I had been dilating for three weeks, I had lost my mucus plug, I had the whole bloody show, and I was like, ‘I’m literally going in labor any day … No way my sister’s beating me to the delivery room.’”

Tough Labor

Nikki’s birth experience was made more difficult due to the safety precautions put in place amid the COVID-19 crisis. “Twenty-two hours in 118 degrees with a room at 76 degrees, that was hot,” she recalled. “And because of COVID, you have to always have your mask on. There’s just so many rules.”

It’s All in the Name

The source of Nikki and Chigvintsev’s son’s middle name — Artemovich — stems from a tradition within the dancer’s family, in which they combine the father’s first name with “ovich.” However, when it comes to their son’s first name, she took inspiration from her trainer, Gregg Miele.

“I was pregnant and training with him — this was L.A., this was before COVID and before I knew [my baby's] gender — and he was talking about his son, like ‘Oh Matteo … it’s so cute because he gets knocked down and he gets back up and he’s so fierce and strong,’” she said. “It gave me, like, alligator chills how he was talking about him.”

Brie, in particular, chose a very unique moniker for her son with Buddy — which was inspired by her husband’s father. On the episode, Brie noted “how much Bryan’s dad meant to him.” She also revealed that her newborn’s middle name, Dessert, was her grandmother’s maiden name, saying: “She means the world to us.”

Twin Connection

Brie noted the similarities she’s spotted between her and Nikki’s sons so far. “The way they came to us — like, Nicole and I both having surprises,” she explained. “I feel, like, the fact that they’re both boys, the fact that they wanted to be born right around each other, I really feel, like, they’re so connected and there’s something special to these two boys.”
