Spencer Pratt and Stephanie Pratt's Sibling Drama Timeline: From 'The Hills' to Beyond the Cameras

These two just cannot see eye to eye. Spencer Pratt’s feud with his sister, Stephanie Pratt, dates back to the siblings’ tumultuous time as costars on The Hills. The brother-sister duo grew up in Los Angeles before turning to careers in the spotlight. Spencer, who is the elder Pratt by nearly three years, joined the MTV reality series at the end of season 1, which aired in August 2006. Stephanie made her first appearance on The Hills in November 2007, midway through season 3. The Pratts’ rocky relationship was evident from the start, with Spencer frequently getting into fights with his sister that left her in tears. Whether they argued about her friendship with his rival Lauren Conrad or over her sensitivity, the pair were often at odds. Spencer married costar Heidi Montag in November 2008. Shortly after the nuptials, Stephanie claimed that her brother and her sister-in-law did not want her involved in their lives. (The couple welcomed son Gunner in October 2017.) However, Us Weekly exclusively confirmed in August 2018 that MTV planned to stage a comeback via The Hills: New Beginnings. The revival, which is set to premiere in June 2019, will feature Montag, Spencer, Stephanie, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, Brody Jenner and more familiar faces. Conrad and Kristin Cavallari will not appear. As the premiere date approached, Stephanie revealed during an April 2019 episode of her “Pratt Cast” podcast that she and Spencer are not speaking, blaming Montag for the estrangement. “The behavior that I’ve seen … I’m done. This is why I moved to London,” she explained. “They are the most toxic people I’ve ever met. They are Bonnie and Clyde till they die. Stephanie angered her brother when she began a friendship with Conrad while the two attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising together. Spencer confronted his little sis in season 3 of The Hills, telling her, “You’re making yourself cry,” as he scolded her for trying to negotiate a reconciliation between the fashion designer and former pal Montag.

Cut Off

The Made in Chelsea alum told Fancast in 2010 that Spencer and Montag “decided they don’t want me in their life.” While Stephanie claimed she did not know what was going on with her older brother, she admitted to Us in April of that year, “I hope he knows that I love him.”

BBQ Squabble

The Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars alum lashed out at Stephanie again in season 6. Spencer mocked his sibling as she attempted to reconcile with him at a barbecue hosted by Cavallari. “That’s why you’re not in my life, you crazy bitch,” he exclaimed as Montag silently looked on. “’Cause you come to barbecues and just start crying.”

Oh Baby

Us broke the news in April 2017 that Speidi was expecting their first child. Weeks later, Stephanie confessed to OK! that she had “no idea” about the pregnancy. “Spencer and Heidi tend to do things in their own way,” she said. “I’m really happy for them both.”

Subtle Digs

The “Pratt Cast” cohost seemingly slammed her brother in August 2017 with a cryptic Instagram quote that read: “Some of the most poisonous people come disguised as family.” She added in her caption, “They never cease to amaze me –good thing I always pray for my enemies.” Stephanie elaborated on Twitter, writing, “I have protected people over the evil things they have done - & I’m tired of it- tired of my parents living in denial. Time 2 tell the truth.” Spencer later tweeted what appeared to be a response, though it was indirect: “Can’t beef with peeps who have mental problems.”

Her Fault?

Stephanie confirmed in April 2019 that she is not on speaking terms with Spencer and Montag. She went on to blame the feud on her “gold digger” sister-in-law. “If it weren’t for Heidi, I would have an epic relationship with my brother,” she alleged on a “Pratt Cast” episode. “So would my parents. … I’ve tried to be nice to her for 10 years because I love my brother.”

It’s Over

“Heidi is always number one to Spencer, so you know what? Spencer is dead to me,” Stephanie said during the April 2019 “Pratt Cast” episode. She also revealed that her brother was cut out of their parents’ will due to “how horrific he is as a human.”

Speidi’s Reaction

The couple responded to Stephanie’s allegations during an April 2019 episode of the “Make Speidi Famous Again” podcast. “It’s been a really hard week for me,” Montag told listeners. “I had a lot of on-Hills drama with a family member and that was very challenging and heartbreaking. I felt like there were some very below-the-belt, nasty comments that weren’t even true.” Spencer added: “If you think you’re gonna walk on my sweet little angel, Heidi, you have something coming your way.”

Not So Fast

Spencer and Heidi continued to address their feud with Stephanie during another April 2019 episode of their podcast. The crystal enthusiast dissed his sister by saying that he has been “living with evil” for his entire life. However, the author then clapped back at Spencer by saying that he is “married to the Devil.”

No Relationship

Stephanie opened up about her troubled relationship with Spencer ahead of the premiere episode of The Hills: New Beginnings. “I love doing this [revival] now because I’m separate from my family, for the most part,” she told Us exclusively in June 2019. “Everything’s the same [with Spencer], non-existent. But every family has drama!”

Claws are Out

The brother-sister duo engaged in a heated exchange of words — in public — on the debut episode of the hit MTV show in July 2019, where the Celebrity Big Brother U.K. alum called Stephanie “the most self-centered person ever.”

Evil Eyes

The Made in Reality author slammed Spencer and Heidi in a lengthy tweet in July 2019, referring to them as “evil.” The post led fans to ask whether she’d be joining the cast for season 2 of the revival, to which Stephanie replied, “No.”

Still Icy

"We were never like best friends and chatty or whatever,” Spencer said on a January 2021 episode of the “Juicy Scoop” podcast. “I have the same relationship and opinion about my sister as I did in 2005. She’s a great aunt to my older sister's kids, but we [have] not [been] close for 15, almost 20 years — so long that she wouldn't be in Gunner's life."

Body-Shaming Accusations

Stephanie shared a photo of Heidi in a bikini via her Instagram Story in April 2021. “Yay Heidi’s pregnant!!” she wrote. “I hope she has a little girl this time! Cute bump.” She also posted a shirtless pic of Spencer with the caption, “I wonder what my brother is having.”  

Fans took to the comments section of Heidi's recent Instagram photo to speculate if she was expecting baby No. 2, but Spencer clarified his sister’s post. “Heidi is not pregnant,” he replied in Heidi's comments. “Just being body shamed.”
