While TV shows and movies have teams dedicated to making sure nothing goes wrong on the production side, things slip through the cracks from time to time. That’s where fans come in. Over the years, viewers have pointed out the entertainment industry’s mishaps including the famous Starbucks cup of 2019 that popped up in a Game of Thrones scene. While Twitter users have been quick to find mistakes in their favorite shows and film franchises, TikTok users have been faster. With tabs dedicated to spotting fashion blunders and continuity issues, TikTok has become the go-to place to reveal errors what many have missed. With streaming services at fans’ fingertips and the ability to binge anything from a laptop or phone, the inconsistencies in shows, including Gossip Girl and Friends, have been hard to miss. Movies, including Avengers: Endgame, have also fallen victim to the postproduction fail a time or two. Kim Kardashian Not Actually Speaking on 'American Horror Story'

After the premiere of American Horror Story: Delicate in September 2023, fans quickly noticed a potential production slip-up. "Kim’s lips not even moving 😭," a social media user wrote via X alongside a clip of Kardashian's character seemingly speaking without moving her lips.

Queen Charlotte's Paintings

After the Bridgerton prequel aired in May 2023, a fan took to Twitter to address the historical inaccuracy. "These two are adorable, but the portraits in #QueenCharlotte are KILLING me. NONE of those people were even *born* in 1761!" a social media user wrote, noting that several of Queen Charlotte's future relatives were pictured in portraits behind her.

In several season 3 episodes, which premiered in February 2023, fans picked up on editing mistakes where actors' stunt doubles weren't removed from the respective shots.

‘The Last of Us’ Crew Spotted

In the February 19, 2023, episode of the HBO drama, a number of mysterious figures were seen in the background of a pivotal scene between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and his newly reunited brother, Tommy (Gabriel Luna).

“Brilliant episode. Something you might want to fix and reupload though: You can see the film crew in this shot,” a social media user wrote via Twitter at the time.

Double the Eiffel Towers in 'Emily in Paris'

In January 2023, eagle-eyed fans pointed out that two separate Eiffel Towers appear out of different windows after Emily walks around Madeline's hotel room in a season 3 scene.

Jim Carrey's Eyes in 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'

In December 2022, a TikTok user pointed out an inconsistency in the holiday villain's appearance.

“Every time I watch The Grinch I notice this one little mistake they made where they forget either to put his contacts in or they forgot to edit them in afterwards and so just Jim Carrey’s brown eyes are just there,” the TikToker explained in a clip that showed Carrey's real eyes as opposed to the inhuman green ones he has throughout the rest of the film.

The Face Masks in 'Bridgerton'

Viewers pointed out that several Bridgerton extras were wearing masks in the background during the season 2 dance sequence between Penelope and Colin.

King Viserys' Hand

In the third episode of House of the Dragon, eagle-eyed fans noticed that actor Paddy Considine — who plays the 8-fingered King Viserys — had what appeared to be green tape wrapped around two of his fingers to make it easy for visual effects artists to edit them out in post-production. However, once the mistake made the rounds on social media, HBO told The Hollywood Reporter that they would fix the effects and send an updated version of the episodes to the streaming service.

‘Love Is Blind’ Dinnertime

An eagle-eyed viewer pointed out via TikTok that Salvador “Sal” Perez and then-fiancée Mallory Zapata’s dinner portions changed in one season 2 scene. As the former couple ate a meal together, the amount of stir-fry on their plates changed halfway through their heated conversation. In one continuous conversation, the social media user noted that their plates went from full to empty to full again, much to the delight of the user.

Gossip Girl Fashion Mistake

While watching the fourth episode of Gossip Girl season 6, titled, “Portrait of a Lady Alexander,” in May 2020, one user spotted a fashion don’t. In one scene, Lively’s character is wearing a peach dress while standing in a restaurant. In the next frame, however, she is wearing black sweatpants under her fitted frock, which was a major misstep in the wardrobe department.

Avengers Endgame Mishap

TikTok user @Laurisramirez10 went viral in May 2020 after pointing out a major plot hole in Avengers: Endgame. As the Avengers are fighting in the final battle of the film, when Black Panther (the late Chadwick Boseman) takes the Infinity Gauntlet, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) appears in the background. The issue, however, is that Ant-Man is supposed to be hotwiring a van with Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), meaning he is accidentally two places at once.

High School Musical Song Swap

During Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) and Troy Bolton’s (Zac Efron) duet in 2006’s High School Musical, one social media user discovered a flaw in their singing parts. In the scene, Gabriella freezes on stage and begins to walk off but Troy stops her and gives her a pep talk. The two go back to center stage where Troy begins to sing. The strange part is that it is Gabriella who was supposed to start the song — which is why her stage fright almost derailed the whole number — yet Troy kicks things off.

Barefoot Upper Eastsider

During season 5’s “Jewel of Denial,” one eagled-eyed Gossip Girl fan noticed in June 2020 that while Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Dan Humphry (Penn Badgley) are walking at a party, there is an extra in the background wearing only one shoe. The woman can be seen barefoot on one side and wearing a high heel on the other.

Friends' Dad Double Take

Fans noticed a continuity error while watching Friends in February 2021. During a scene in season 8’s “The One in Massapequa,” Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) are talking with Judy (Christina Pickles) and Jack Gellar (Elliott Gould) at the Gellar’s 35th anniversary party. At one point in the clip, the camera switches angles and reveals a stand-in for Gould, before the shot quickly changes and Gould is back on screen.

House Bunny Hair

TikTok user @sloopyflooop spotted a beauty fail in 2008’s The House Bunny while watching the film in March 2021. As Anna Faris’ character, Shelley Darlingson, is getting her hair done at a salon, the user pointed out that the hairstylist doesn’t actually do anything to her ‘do. If you look closely, you can see that the curling tool never touches Faris’ blonde locks, instead the stylist just moves his hand close to her head.

One Tree Hill’s Car Switch

While watching One Tree Hill’s season 2, episode 6, on Hulu, TikTok user @sarah_wirgau made a keen observation — she spotted Chad Michael Murray and Paul Johansson’s stunt doubles on screen. “Lucas & Dan caught red handed,” the user captioned the clip in July 2021, which showed Murray’s Lucas Scott driving with Johansson’s Dan Scott in a red convertible. As the father-son duo race newcomer Felix Taggarro (played by Michael Copon), the camera zooms out and then back in, accidentally capturing the stunt doubles, who are much older than the actors, in the same red vehicle.

You's Peculiar Profile Pic

A fan on TikTok noticed that Joe’s Messenger photo in season 3 doesn't really look like the actor who plays him.

“IM LOSING MY MIND???? WHO IS THAT??????” the viewer captioned a clip of Love (Victoria Pedretti) texting Joe (Penn Badgley) on the Netflix series. The person joked that the image wasn't of Joe Goldberg, but “Joey Silverberg.”

Don’t Look Up’s Film Crew Mishap

TikTok user Ben Köhler (@sightpicture) shared a clip from Don’t Look Up in December 2021, in which he pointed out that the film crew is noticeably standing around for three or four frames in the background.

“At one hour, 28 minutes and 10 seconds, it looks like you can see the whole film crew standing here, for like three or four frames," the fan says in the video. “They're like, ‘Oh, they probably won't notice that.' Yup [I did]."

The film’s producer, Adam McKay, commended the user for catching the intentional film crew sighting. “Good eye! We left that blip of the crew in on purpose to commemorate the strange filming experience,” he tweeted.

‘Selling Sunset’ Phone Call

Eagle-eyed Netflix viewers noticed via Twitter that Oppenheim Group boss Jason Oppenheim pretended to take a phone call with a client during the 7th episode of season 5. The episode, which dropped in April 2022, saw newbie agent Chelsea Lazkani bring Jason a notable home offer that he presents to his client via phone call. However, on closer inspection, the former attorney’s phone was, instead, open to his camera app.

'Stranger Things' Birthday Details

Fans pointed out that Mike's trip to see Eleven during season 4 of Stranger Things fell on Will's birthday. Even though footage of Eleven from that day was marked as March 22, none of the characters seemed to remember. Other viewers, however, questioned if that was done intentionally since Will was going through a rough patch with his best friend. 

Creators Matt and Ross Duffer later confirmed that they forgot about Will's birthday when writing season 4.

"The honest response is, clearly like the characters in the show, we also forgot about Will’s birthday. So the debate now is whether we adjust Will’s birthday or we just let it be really sad," Matt told Variety in June 2022. We’re thinking his new birthday is going to be May 22nd, because 'May' can fit in Winona [Ryder]’s mouth [in the season 2 scene where Joyce says the date of Will’s birthday]. So that would be us George Lucas-ing the situation."

Later that month, the showrunners clarified that the mistake would be changed on screen, which they have done in the past. “We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about,” Matt told Variety.

Ross revealed that the first installment of season 4 also went through some changes after being released to the public. “Some of the visual effects,” he added. “It’s not, like, story, but you’re essentially patching in shots. Netflix is — I don’t think they’ve ever allowed people to patch on opening week and even weekend. And we said, ‘Well, why not?’ And [they] said, ‘Well, it makes us nervous.’ And we’re like, ‘Well, maybe we try it this time.’ And it turned out fine.”

A Mysterious Hand in 'The Princess Diaries 2'

In May 2022, one TikTok user noticed that Mia (Anne Hathaway) got a helping hand — literally — during one scene in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.  "Have you ever noticed the hand stopping the chair?" the social media sleuth wrote in their caption. Other fans replied that they hadn't but would never forget it after seeing the clip. "Well shoot. Now I’m gonna have to see TPD for the 10000th time," joked one viewer.
