In an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 18, the 18-year-old showed off the final results, proving that the bleached ‘do was really just a means to and end for this playful new look. “Pink is punk,” she wrote in the accompanying caption. “Watch my igtv to see @guidopalau remotely creative direct my dreams of going pink 💕.”

In the video that Palau later shared to his feed, the model is seen working away, applying the dye to her damp, light strands.

“You know I’ve never dyed my hair,” she says at the start. “I’ve always wanted to have pink hair but because it was brown and I had never bleached it I didn’t want to bleach it just to go pink.”

“It’s like home cooking for hair,” the pro replies.

As chill as it seems, she notes that it is not a one man job, saying she’s glad to have Palau with her to help. “If it goes wrong at least I can blame you and not myself,” she jokes.

During the relaxed process, the hair guru directs her on where to add more dye every now and again but mostly, he’s just there as reassurance. Since the formula is more like a conditioner, he tells her there’s no need to shampoo after. All she needs to do is rinse. “Thank you for facilitating my hair adventures,” she tells him at the end.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrities have taken to doing their own cuts and colors at home either because salons are closed or because they’re uncomfortable visiting them. A main trend we saw during the height of quarantine was A-listers rocking bold new hues. From Hilary Duff’s vibrant blue to Sarah Hyland’s magenta, it was an exciting time to try out a new look.

The same goes for Gerber. She says during the Instagram Live that quarantine provided her a chance to try out different hairstyles she’s admired, from blonde highlights to a mullet cut. “I’ve always loved people who just do whatever they want with their hair.”

Palau agreed. “Yeah they’re always the really inspiring people too, aren’t they? The people you look at and go ‘wow! Look what they did.’”

Now Gerber’s one of those girls! “I never thought I would have colored hair. But here we are.”
