Celine Dion Cancels 4 Months of Concerts, Has Inflamed Vocal Chords
Her heart will go on, but her voice will not.
Legendary Canadian crooner Celine Dion has been ordered to cancel the next four months of her Las Vegas residency after coming down with a nasty virus that weakened her vocal chords and caused them to become inflamed.
The 43-year-old is currently one year into her three-year engagement at Vegas' Caesars Palace, where she performs regularly at her sold-out shows where tickets sell for up to $250. Once she's healthy, her concerts will kick back up June 9.
On Tuesday, the "Because You Loved Me" singer released a statement on her website in light of the recent unfortunate events.
"I tried to sing at my sound-check last week, and I had no control of my voice whatsoever," she said. "We thought that after a few days rest I would improve but it wasn't getting any better. Obviously this is the worst thing for a singer -- not being able to do your shows. I feel worse knowing that I'm disappointing my fans. I'm so sorry. I hope they forgive me."
