As an R&B master himself, it seemed only natural that Raphael Saadiq choose a song by the Spinners, a group that helped define the genre in the '70s, for his Levi's Pioneer Sessions recording.

An added bonus for the track, "It's a Shame," originally released in 1970? It was written by one of Saadiq's "favorite people in the world," Stevie Wonder.

"What makes 'It's a Shame' special to me is, from the second I heard that's never left my head," says the singer, whose album The Way I See It, was greatly influenced by Motown. "From [hearing it as] a kid, I still hear it the exact same way."

Artists who will be releasing music for Levi's Pioneer Sessions include The Kills, John Legend and the Roots and Passion Pit.
