In this country ballad–like movie that's earning Jeff Bridges Oscar buzz, he plays a downward-spiraling musician who finds redemption in rehab with the love of a good woman (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Bridges offers a great performance, but his hokey romance with Gyllenhaal contrasts too harshly with the film's gritty realism, like when he interrupts a song to throw up then rescues his glasses from the vomit. Ick!
