Exclusive: DWTS' Aaron Carter: I'm Not Trying "to Hook Up" With Karina Smirnoff

Thursday – October 01, 2009 – 1:22pm

Aaron Carter says his comments about not wanting to date Dancing With the Stars partner Karina Smirnoff were taken out of context.

While chatting with 104.3 MY FM’s Valentine in the Morning on Monday, Carter, 21, said he would not want "to be in that category" of men who have romanced Smirnoff, 30. "I'm sorry, but I'm not that guy," he said. "I don't got that kind of time."

But Carter tells Usmagazine.com he has "the utmost respect" for Smirnoff, who recently called off her engagement to Makism Chmerkovskiy. He says he was only trying to be "professional" by saying he's not "trying to hook up" with anyone on the show.

"She's amazing," Carter says of Smirnoff. "I'm sorry if it was misunderstood as being negative in any way towards Karina. Fortunately, she understood what was meant and that sometimes things are taken and repeated out of context."

He also wants fans to realize he was only joking when he said "there are no if’s, and’s or but’s ... I’m going to win Dancing with the Stars."

Carter tells Us, "The DJ and I were having a humorous conversation, and my sense of humor and high energy seemed to translate into being overly confident.

"Of course, I hope to win -- it is a competition," he adds. "But my castmates are unbelievably dedicated, talented and competitive. It is anybody's game at this point!"

ok to all of you telling us to get over this...well I disagree I think aaron wearing this is very direspectful to our soldiers. They earn it and if you arent in the military you shouldnt wear it. My fiancee is in the Marines, he earned it and if he wants to wear it he shhould join the Marines. He has done nothing in his life so he doesnt deserve to wear this...

    Frankly, Anonymous, your an idiot.
  • February 24, 2010 - 9:41pm Marine Says:

Wow, you'd think that people would have more respect. He sure as hell didn't earn the right to wear that. I hope he breaks his legs

Crystal, I'm sorry but you're wrong. The buttons on the jacket are considered USMC insignia. In fact, those buttons are the oldest uniform items in the American armed forces. They represent our original emblem before the adoption of the Eagle, Globe & Anchor that currently represents our service. That jacket is also specifically designed and made for wear by Marines. There are very specific laws that govern how military uniform items are made and who can wear them.

well i understand y'all being upset about it, My husband is a USMC Marine Sgt. However, he is not wearing any USMC insignia. Just a blue jacket with a red lining, there is nothing on that jacket that says usmc. So there for it could just be a designer replica. Believe me, i understand the importance of the uniform, and if he were wearing it with Chevrons and medals and the USMC decal on it, it would be different, but truth is, he's not so there for try not to be so judgemental. Im SURE he supports the military, and maybe that was his way of doing so.

Hm...... CPL Rad.....im fairly certain that wearing that means that you should have earned it. My fiance is a marine and currently overseas....and here is Aaron wearing this when he has done NOTHING to earn it! It really is wrong. He doenst even have the common courtesy to wear it CORRECTLY! lol

re: Wow, really? It's a just a jacket! Get over yourselves! -USAF 2nd Lt. Really Just a Jacket!?!?!? no its not just a jacket. and for you being in the military you should recognize that, I suppose they didnt teach you that in the USAF, Sir CPL of the Marines.

Aaron carter doesnt deserve to look at a blues jacket, let alone wear one. he's not even wearing it properly... if he respected them he would wear it like it should be worn... i know a marine wouldnt wear it like that

You want to wear that uniform sign up and earn it...my son did!!!
  • October 30, 2009 - 11:46am lolabell Says:

I like the jacket!!! Everyone has an opinion, the military look is in right now. Sorry he didn't please every single person of the millions in the population of America. Jeeze get over it!
  • October 29, 2009 - 11:10am Disappointed Marine Says:

I don't care what his intentions were. The fact is he doesn't rate to wear that jacket. Men and women who have answered a higher calling then being a washed-up 21 year-old, and dedicated their life, sweat, and blood that that calling, rate to wear that uniform. Wearing it in such a nasty way doesn't help either.

  • October 26, 2009 - 9:39pm Crystal Says:

I'm just saying either way it is not bad!!! I'm sure he thought it was respectful when they picked the outfit out for him, he still didnt have a choice! Listen to what I'm saying and understand its both!
  • October 26, 2009 - 9:18pm sick in Tx Says:

See that is the differance between the Air Force and the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps has pride in thier service and uniforms. And Crystal at one time in your post you said he did it out of respect and then you say it was not his fault but his stylist. Make up your mind.
  • October 26, 2009 - 8:54pm Aaronfan Says:

WOW really people? Give him a break! I am sick of all these "Proud Marine" people on here! The kid wore a jacket of a marine, he probably really respects them, as they should be respected, I am sure he didn't do it out of disrespect. And if you find it so "horrible" then obviously you don't care for people showing respect. People don't get all in a tizy when people army/navy/airforce costumes for halloween! Take a min to look in the mirror, you are picking on a 21 year old who is no different than anyone else!
  • October 26, 2009 - 8:51pm Crystal Says:

I think a lot of you need to give it a rest, he didn't do it out of disrespect, he did it if anything out of tribute and respect, give him a break! And for all the negativity you say about him, do any of you know him? It is soooo mean to rag on someone so terribly! And every army costume out there is not considered disrespectful for people to wear, and again he doesn't pick out his outfits, call his stylist and yell at them! Grow up people!
  • October 26, 2009 - 7:52pm LCpl Screw Carter Says:

With all due respect sir, it's not just a jacket. A lot of history in that uniform and that emblem on its buttons. RE: annon. Why would he want to wear a chairforce uniform? RE: Tania So what if his dad was an MP, he wasn't and that is a Marine Corps Dress Blue Jacket, not USAF. There is a huge difference.
  • October 26, 2009 - 7:46pm LCpl Screw Carter Says:

Screw that poser. Semper kick some homo ass!! How disrespectful to a uniform I earned with more sweat and blood than he's seen in his life! I hope his limo crashes! Oorah!!
