Jim Parsons is an American actor best known for playing the beloved Sheldon Cooper on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory from 2007 to 2019. In 2018, he was named the world’s highest-paid TV actor by Forbes. Parsons spent his childhood in the suburbs of Houston, Texas, and developed an interest in acting at a young age. After earning his bachelor’s degree in theater from the University of Houston before obtaining his master’s degree in acting from the University of San Diego in 2001.

Parsons landed early roles in films including Garden State (2004) and Heights (2005) before landing his role as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Band Theory in 2007. He spent 12 seasons on the hit show, earning him several awards including four Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. He also was nominated for the 2024 Tony Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Mother Play.

The actor’s additional credits include Hidden Figures (2016), Home (2015), Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019), The Boys in the Band (2020) and Young Sheldona prequel series to The Big Bang Theory, on which Parsons served as the narrator and executive producer.

Parsons has been married to his husband, Todd Spiewak, since 2017, and their wedding took place at the Rainbow Room in New York City. The couple first met in 2002 on a blind date.
