Miguel Jontel Pimentel, known in the music business simply as Miguel, released his debut album, All I Want Is You, in November 2010 with backing from Jive Records. Once Jive disbanded, Miguel transitioned to RCA Records to release Kaleidoscope Dream in 2012.
Influenced by the likes of Prince, Freddie Mercury and Kanye West, Miguel — who won a 2013 Best R&B Song Grammy for his trademark hit “Adorn” — made headlines in May 2013 when he accidentally kicked a fan during a performance at the Billboard Awards.
Attempting to run and jump from one section of the stage to another, leaping over a pit of fans, the singer miscalculated his reach and landed just shy of the stage, kicking one fan in the face and landing on another’s arm. The woman kicked, Khyati Shah hired a lawyer after the incident, alleging that she may have suffered a head injury. “Got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is okay,” Miguel tweeted post-performance. “Rock and roll made me do it.”
