“Thank you for the depth of grace you have found since our daughter has arrived,” the Canadian star captioned a mother-daughter shot in May. “The commitment that you make look so effortless but I know is anything but. Thank you for making me a father. For trusting me enough to embark on this journey together. I am humbled more and more every day by that.”

The couple welcomed their little one in April, four months after Us Weekly broke the news that Turner-Smith was pregnant with their first child. “Both mother and baby are happy and healthy,” a rep for the pair told Us at the time.

The model has since become a “milk factory until further notice,” she joked in April. The following month, the new mom opened up about treating her skin with breast milk.

“Any new mothers get breakouts postpartum?” she captioned a May Instagram selfie. “I’ve been getting so many spots lately (hormones?) but I put breast milk on them last night and today my skin looks much better.”

In August, Turner-Smith reflected on her home birth amid the coronavirus pandemic, saying she had “full agency” over the experience.

“We had already decided on a home birth because of concerns about negative birth outcomes for Black women in America,” she explained to British Vogue at the time. “According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk of pregnancy-related deaths is more than three times greater for Black women than for white women, pointing, it seems to me, to systemic racism.”

Turner-Smith added that she and Jackson feel “lucky and privileged” to raise their daughter together. “Both of us had watched our own mothers struggle to raise children without such support,” the Nightflyers star told the outlet. “Both of us were determined to create something for ourselves. He kept saying to me, ‘There’s no part of this that I’m going to miss.’”

Us broke the news in December 2019 that she and the Little Fires Everywhere alum had tied the knot.
