No stranger to controversy, the Good Place alum made waves on social media when she came out as queer in the middle of a heated Twitter spat in February 2020. She told Variety one month later that she’d known about her sexuality since she was a child. “I didn’t tell anyone about it until a couple of years ago, so I just kept it quiet because I come from a South Asian background. So, you just don’t really have a lot of queer idols,” she explained. “There isn’t a lot of conversation around it. There isn’t a lot of acceptance for it within my culture, traditionally.”
