Gisele Gives $1.5 Million to Haiti Relief Efforts

Friday – January 15, 2010 – 12:12pm

Gisele Bundchen has written a $1.5 million check to the Red Cross to aid the relief effort in Haiti, which was rocked Tuesday by a 7.0 earthquake that is believed to have killed at least 100,000 people.

The model -- who reportedly earned $35 million last year -- was prompted to pitch in after seeing the devastation done by this week’s earthquake, according to The Boston Globe.

Who are Hollywood's most generous celebs?

Other stars who are helping:

Haiti-born Wyclef Jean: He has already raised more than $1 million through his Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.

Madonna: She has pledged $250,000. In a statement, she said told UsMagazine.com: "My prayers are with the people of Haiti. I can't imagine the terrible pain and suffering they are experiencing. Sadly the depths of the tragedy are just becoming known and the need for our support grows more urgent with every passing moment."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: They are donating $1 million to Doctors Without Borders. Pitt's international advocacy group, Not On Our Watch - which he founded with George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and producer Jerry Weintraub - also gave $1 million.

Tyler Perry: $250,000

Ben Stiller: He's raising money for a school in Ceverine in Haiti through Save the Children. He also is asking fans for $10 donations charged to phone bills by texting "Haiti" to 90999.

George Clooney: As Us reported Thursday, he is hosting a telethon Jan. 22 on MTV to raise funds.

David Blaine: The magician, who once shot a TV special in Haiti in 1999, is working with the Red Cross to raise funds for Haitian earthquake victims by performing his street magic for 72 hours non-stop, starting Friday at 9 a.m. in Times Square.

Gloria maybe if you read other magazines and articles maybe some, God forgive me that "black Folks" may actually write you would know what "black celebrities" has given to Haiti. You are ignorant and I pray for you. To turn such a tragedy to black and white shame on you. I live in USA and I was born in Jamaica but to be honest I NEVER experienced racism until I came to the USA. The situation thats happing right now in this country concerning our economy has nothing to do with black and white we have all been impacted and I thought out of our own experiences the color line would be erased. I guess it will take another 100 years for people like yourself to catch up.

leetsa you are an ignorant hater. And as someone here previously said this is not a "one time" thing for Gisele. She has done A LOT of charitable work over the years- humanitarian and environmental, especially in her home country of Brazil. Its not like all of a sudden she had this urge to give back, she's been doing so her entire career. People just don't know about it because it hasn't been publicized and she never cared to do so. Better do your homework next time leetsa.

Mike I soooo agree with you about our so called President. 15K How incredibly sad! How much money does he take home a year? A million or so? How embarrassing for him. He should be ashamed! Hope he gives to other charities! What is wrong with our society??? This world we live in is very backwards.

Every donation helps, but I find her donation rather pathetic, like chump change with the fact she made 35 million in 1 year! CAN YOU BELEIVE IT WASN'T EVEN 5% OF HER EARNINGS. Gee what do you think shes gonna do with the rest of that 34 million??? This did not even dent her wallet. People who have nothing give everything and DO NOT get any attention nor do they want it because they give souly from the heart and do not need recognition. I find this an embarassment that alot of these stars could end world hunger but are too concerned about what they look like, when half the time they're badly dressed anyway I wonder how much Tom Cruise gave. Doesn't his wife spend millions on fashion alone?

HEATHER..your are so selfish and ignorant...3ºworld contry? so..in USA don't happen tragedies? the tragedy in USA are people like you..you are nothing..what happened at Haiti doesn't even compare to Hurricane katrina..watch out!!!million of people died and they were in a very long intern war..what's 1000 times worse..it's was the biggest tragedy in the last 60 years, and you say people shouldn't care...it was an eathquake..and buildings go dow..they were not crappy building, crappy are the houses in USA..the walls are made of kind o paper and plaster , you gotta thank that was not your city where the earthquake got....so you are so unhappy..
  • January 24, 2010 - 1:17am Heather Says:

You know I don't want to be rude or whatever but I'm sick of hearing about his Haiti disaster. It's these third world countries that get all the attention but what about people here. Did you see Haiti jump when the devestation hit in the south due to Hurricane Katrina? What about the earthquake that caused the tsunami in Samoa? It is sad that devestation hit, but it all comes down to their country the fact that they are poor, the fact that they have made crappy buildings, its all them. I feel like why can't people raise some money to help people on main street.
