Us Rating: ** 1/2

The fifth album by alterna-punk quintet Good Charlotte may be their most diverse foray into pop-rock so far. It's got both downright danceable fun ("Like It's Her Birthday") and light nostalgia ("1979"). But it can get scary syrupy in spots, like frontman Joel Madden's ode to his daughter with Nicole Richie, "Harlow's Song (Can't Dream Without You)." (Capitol)
