Months after the actor's vicious custody war with Oksana Grigorieva -- and the accompany, shocking phone tapes that emerged -- the embattled actor has resurfaced in the first trailer for The Beaver.

Rumored for a spring 2011 release and directed by his pal Jodie Foster (who also costars as his disgruntled wife), the film stars Gibson as Walter -- a depressed, mentally disturbed man who copes with his problems by speaking through a beaver puppet. (The fate of the film's distribution was in doubt following Gibson's summertime controversy.)
