No matter what time of year it is, we always end up wishing it were hotter or cooler, and more importantly, wishing we could wear certain out-of-season styles. In the spring and summer, we’re wearing florals every chance we get. In the winter, however, those floral patterns are pushed farther and farther back into our closet. We miss them, but they just don’t make sense in the snow . . . unlike this dress.

Unlike our other floral dresses, which are usually made of a light cotton, this shift dress has a soft burnout-velvet fabric. It’s black and features muted pinks, greens, yellows and beiges to form a moody floral pattern all over. The print reminds us of finding a secret garden within a lush forest in the quiet hours of the night. It’s mysterious, alluring and beautiful, and we never want to leave. How could it get any better? Shoppers have wonderful things to say about their new velvet shift dress, one calling it “a brilliantly conceived, meticulously executed garment.” Now, that’s what we like to hear. Another said the fit “hangs just right,” while another commented on the fabric, loving that it “doesn’t show wrinkles” so they can travel with it to wear to special events! No more panicking about not having time to iron or steam because we were stuck in traffic or our flight was delayed.
This dress has long sleeves which gather at the ends to balloon slightly away from the wrists. This creates a classy and classic effect, especially with the sheerness of the sleeves. So vintage-chic! Up at the top is a rounded, jewel neckline, which leaves room for long, glimmering necklaces to shine atop of the dark fabric. Down at the bottom of the dress is a flowy ruffle hem, which hits at the thigh. Just because we’re wearing this dress in the cold doesn’t mean it has to be maxi-length! That’s what tights, thigh-high socks and over-the-knee boots are for!
This dress has a babydoll fit, draping gracefully while maintaining clean lines for a sophisticated look. With lines that clean, we may be thinking, “How are we supposed to put this on without ripping something?” Not to worry, because there is a hidden zip closure camouflaged flawlessly in the back of the dress!
So, we know we can wear this dress in the cold, but where are we supposed to wear it? Does “wherever we want” sound good? It certainly sounds fair to Us. With its short length and charming sleeves, we’d easily consider this dress for a date night. We can put on a pair of heeled booties, swipe some champagne-gold highlighter on our cheekbones, grab a clutch and get ready to be asked for a second date before the night’s even over!
We’d also wear this dress to work with flats and our hair pulled into a low bun, or for a much bigger occasion! It’s described as being a go-to for “special events,” so it’s an excellent choice for visiting an art gallery, going to a birthday get-together (or hosting one) or even attending a wedding! This dress introduces a great opportunity to play around with colorful shoes to match its floral print, too. We’re feeling a pair of suede green heels or pink mules, but we can always rely on black or metallics too! So much versatility all packed into one minidress!
