Meghan McCain's Most Dramatic Moments Cohosting 'The View'

Daytime TV is full of jaw-dropping moments — and Meghan McCain has been at the center of quite a few since joining The View in 2017. After taking three months off to welcome her first daughter, McCain returned to the daytime talk show in January 2021. During her time on the show, the political commentator has butted heads with costars Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar. She also had a few spats with Abby Huntsman, who left the show at the beginning of 2020 for unrelated reasons. McCain's spats ranged from differences of opinion to heated arguments about interruptions. On her second show back from maternity leave, the former second daughter dove straight into the drama, butting heads with Behar, 78. "You missed me so much, Joy. You missed me so much when I was on maternity leave," McCain teased amid a heated exchange. She later appeared on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, admitting that it wasn't easy for her to come back to the show after so much time away. "It's been such a rough reentry back into The View," McCain shared on the late-night show in 2021. "I had a really hard birth ... I had a really hard time getting back to work. I thought I'd be back by the election. So just, like, the process of getting back was a lot and this past week back, with just the show the way it is and obviously everything going on in the country and the horrible, horrific attack on our Capitol — it's just been a lot." "Meghan is a lone wolf at The View, and it has been difficult to produce the show because of the tensions and division," a source revealed. McCain — the only conservative on The View — dubbed herself the show's "sacrificial republican" during a 2020 episode, attributing her political stance with many of her disagreements. "I try to just remind myself that I'm representing 50 percent of the country," the Dirty Sexy Politics author told Entertainment Tonight in 2019. "I'm representing a bunch of women even though I only have one chair, and it's really important." The same year, she told Elle that she continues to appear on the show as a way of saying, "'Nobody's going to bully me, nobody's going to talk down to me, and nobody's going to pull the kind of s--t that's been pulled on a lot of people in this chair." Cut to Commercial

While discussing Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene's comments comparing mask mandates to the Holocaust in May 2021. McCain said she was "confused" about why the remarks warranted airtime during Hot Topics when the rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes is more important. She accused the media in general of ignoring anti-Semitism, which her cohosts refuted.

“I’ve been talking about anti-Semitism on this show for 25 frickin’ years,” Behar said. “Don’t tell me what I’m supposed to be saying Meghan, OK? You do your thing, we do ours.”

When Goldberg tried to cut to a commercial break, McCain was offended. "Why are you cutting me off?" the conservative commentator snapped.

“I’m cutting you off because we have to go, Meghan! Why do you think I’m cutting you off?” Whoopi clapped back.

She's Back!

During her second show back from maternity leave in 2021, McCain locked horns with Behar, teasing, "You missed me so much, Joy. You missed me so much when I was on maternity leave."

Behar fired back, "I did not. I did not miss you. Zero." The Arizona native called the former Joy Behar Show host's comments "so nasty."

Shhhh!

McCain and Goldberg got into it during a discussion about President Trump's impeachment proceedings after the republican TV personality interrupted Hostin, 52, and refused to allow the Sister Act star to move the show forward.

"Girl, please stop talking!" she said during a 2019 episode. "Please stop talking now."

The next morning, McCain responded to the comment on Twitter, writing, "Good Morning - to all the fellow conservative 'girls' who won't be quiet."

Bite Your Tongue

As Trump prepared to relaunch his presidential campaign in the hopes of winning reelection, McCain butted heads with Behar once more. Recalling a conversation she had with someone else explaining the allure of the president to his followers, the former Fox pundit told viewers in June 2019, “I was like, ‘Sometimes it’s not that they love Trump so much, it’s that they hate the same things Trump hates.'"

Her liberal costar cut in, "Who, black people, you mean, and immigrants? Who do they hate?" Goldberg tried to quell tensions between the two to no avail. Behar continued after McCain, who responded by calling her a "bitch."

Spoiler Alert

It's not just her costars whom McCain sometimes finds herself fighting with. In 2019, the late senator's daughter came under fire from Game of Thrones fans for spoiling the show's highly anticipated finale on The View. "I'm so sorry for the #GOT spoilers on the show today!" she tweeted after the episode aired. "I assumed every diehard fan had watched! My bad. Don't watch west coast if you don't want a spoiler."

Bad Hair Day

The columnist and actress went head-to-head during a 2019 episode of The View while talking about Senator Amy Klobuchar's attack on Trump's hairstyle. McCain tried to jump into the conversation, led by Behar, who said, "Can I get through this, please?"

About a minute later, McCain quipped back, "Can I say something now? Is that OK, Joy? Do I have permission to speak now on Amy Klobuchar? We're all good?"

Spill the Beans

In July 2020, after President Trump and Ivanka Trump posed with Goya products in social media photos, McCain and Behar beefed over their differing opinions on the matter. "Hundreds of thousands of Americans are dead and dying, Florida is running out of hospital beds and he's posing with a can of beans," Behar complained, noting the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

McCain attempted to interject, only to be interrupted by her costar. "Joy, you don't have to be so snippy with me today. You really don't," she replied.

McCain 2024?

Following news Senator Elizabeth Warren backed out of the 2020 presidential race in March 2020, McCain seized the opportunity to talk about women in politics during an episode of The View. She admitted that she didn't vote for Hillary Clinton in 2019 and said women are treated very differently from men in the political arena.

Behar suggested she run for president herself someday, which prompted McCain to ask, "Would you vote for me?" The New York native went silent for a few moments before she accused McCain of putting her "on the spot."
