Finally! Kelly Ripa is over the moon about her freshly colored hair after spending months in quarantine letting her gray roots grow out.

On Tuesday, September 8, the 49-year-old morning show host returned to the studio for the first in-studio Live with Kelly and Ryan taping since the pandemic hit. At the start of the episode, she doted on her professionally done hair.

“I got my hair colored and styled and it felt incredible just to have it really done,” she said. When her co-host Ryan Seacrest asked what the process was like, she replied, “So we did the base coat. We did the foils. We did the hair dryer. The whole thing. It felt very safe.” She explained that they all wore masks during the session.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the All My Children alum has been an open book when it comes to her appearance, especially her gray roots. From the very start she’s shared pics of her journey under the hashtag #rootwatch. On March 22, she kicked it off sharing an up-close-and-personal selfie focusing on the roots of her blonde, color-treated hair, captioning it, “Root watch week one.” This continued all throughout the spring and summer, even as salons slowly started to open back up.

On Saturday, August 15, she took it a step even further by turning all the snaps into a meme. “Perhaps this meme is a week old at this point … but does that really compare to these roots?” she captioned a post showing off the progression of her outgrown roots month by month. “My version of the #2020Calendar is just … real.”

During Tuesday’s Live With Kelly and Ryan episode, the host admitted that the lack of hair appointments has allowed her strands to be healthier than ever.

“It has gotten insanely long and thick. It’s like I forgot how much hair I had because I had been putting pieces in and clipping [extensions] in,” she explained. “This is all my hair. And it’s like incredibly long and thick and I think it’s from not styling it, not coloring it.”
