Stylish sisters! Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will always be our favorite twins to draw fashion inspiration from.
The California natives first stole our hearts in 1987 when they made their debut playing Michelle Tanner in Full House when they were just nine months old. The sitcom had a strong eight seasons before concluding in 1995. The Passport to Paris stars continued to act in more TV shows and movies including So Little Time, Winning London, Getting There and more through the early 2000s. In 2004, the dynamic duo began focusing on fashion, launching their own label, The Row, two years later.
From twinning outfits to floral ensembles and contrasting styles, the high-fashion designers have earned a reputation for being some of the hardest working HBICs around.
One of the Olsen twins’ fiercest looks came at the 2008 Met Gala. The theme that year was “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy,” and the sisters delivered drama. Mary-Kate looked like a goddess in a golden Diane Von Furstenberg frock featuring a plunging neckline, cinched waist, flowy skirt, thigh-high skirt and lots of sequins. The Challenge actress topped the look off with her blonde looks in a messy — but chic — updo, soft glam and chrome heels.
Ashley, for her part, looked dreamy in a black dress also designed by DVF. The figure-hugging ensemble included cutouts at the Switching Goals actress’s sides, a square neckline and fitted skirt. Her tresses were swept backwards in a sultry style, and she topped it off with minimal makeup and a shiny clutch.
The twins had Us swooning again at the 2014 Met Gala when they stepped onto the red carpet in vintage gowns. Mary-Kate donned a striped Chanel garb that gracefully draped over her shoulders, tied at her waist and cascaded into a silky skirt. The When in Rome star slicked her hair back into a trendy updo and accessorized with a diamond necklace.
Ashley, on the other hand, wore a Gianfranco Ferré piece that featured a subtle checkered pattern, gold buttons, long sleeves and gorgeous train. The Two of a Kind alum added even more glam to the outfit with pearl-colored earrings, a low ponytail and peachy lips.
More recently, the glamorous girls debuted a timeless look at the CFDA Fashion Awards in June 2019. While accepting the award for the best accessory design for The Row, they sported black getups designed by their brand. Mary-Kate slayed a flowy gown featuring elbow-length sleeves, a cowl neckline and drapey skirt while Ashley teamed a black overcoat with matching pants. She added a pop of color to the ensemble with a teal clutch and both wore their hair in loose waves.
Although we don’t get that many public appearances from The Row and Elizabeth and James designers these days, we’re taking a look back at the most memorable outfits the Olsen twins have rocked. Keep scrolling to see these ensembles and more!
