Us Rating: ***

Jake Gyllenhaal maximizes his hunk potential and scores a solid franchise that, like the lucrative
Mummy series, combines magic, mischief and action. Based on a 2003 video game, the fast-paced adventure follows sixth-century Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal) as he pursues a dagger that can rewind time, fights to prevent the apocalypse and flirts with a princess (Gemma Arterton). The flick is stuffed with escapist fun (from rooftop gymnastics and intense sandstorms to a jaw-dropping ostrich race) and throughout it all, buff, boyish Gyllenhaal is believable as the naive hero. He pulls off a British accent too!
