A disappointing reaction. Kourtney Kardashian's attempts to celebrate her engagement to Travis Barker didn't go well when her children learned the news. "Penelope took it hard. I think it is a big change for her," Kourtney, 43, explained during a new episode of Hulu's The Kardashians, which premiered on Thursday, May 5, after her 9-year-old daughter started to cry over the phone and hung up. "Even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn't know what that means. Like is that taking me away? I think she just doesn't know what it means." The Poosh founder also told Reign, 7, who responded, "Not exciting." Kourtney couldn't reach her eldest son, 12, telling Kim Kardashian, "Penelope didn't go so well. Reign was fine. Mason didn't pick up." Earlier in the episode, Kris Jenner broke the news to Kim, 41, that the kids wouldn't make it to the special event. "For us to have to lie to Scott and get them here under false pretenses would have been really hard for all of us," the momager, 66, noted. "So this is the right thing to do and so that is the way I feel about it." Kourtney, however, wasn't as thrilled by her mother's final decision. "I do wish that my kids were here. I think it would have made them feel more included in the decision and part of the surprise," she told the cameras before getting visibly emotional. "I know that my mom made that decision and it probably wasn't her best." The California native shares her kids with ex Scott Disick. The former couple had their ups and downs before calling it quits after nearly 10 years together in 2016. "What's really got him riled up is the effect Travis [Barker] and Kourtney's relationship is having on his relationship with Kourtney," an insider told Us. "It's more strained than ever." Kourtney, who got engaged to Travis in October 2021, addressed where she stands with Scott during the new episode of The Kardashians. "I think it is really important for Scott to be accepting of our relationship so that the kids can feel good," the TV personality told her family, noting that she "has sympathy" for her ex-boyfriend. Kourtney's Kids Were Left Out

While on their way to the proposal site, Kim questioned why Kourtney's kids were not included in the surprise.

"There was just no way to get that whole thing dialed then and then at the last minute Kourtney told Travis that Penelope wasn't feeling well," Kris explained. "His kids are going to come because they are older. And I am not sure if any of us know how they are exactly going to react. I think it is her decision to break it to her kids the way she wants."

Kourtney's Future With Travis

Hours before the proposal, Kourtney's family expressed their concerns about Scott's reaction.

"Scott is going to lose his f--king mind," Kim told their close friends. "He already knew that they were trying for a baby. To me a baby [means] you are stuck for life. Marriages come and go."

Kris, for her part, pointed out that this was only the beginning for the couple. "I don't think they are going to wait too long to get married. If I was to guess, they are going to fast track," she shared.

After saying yes to Travis, Kourtney addressed the timeline of her relationship with the cameras. "Travis and I don't know what our plans are. We don't know when we are getting married and if we are moving into the same house," she revealed. "It is not like these big decisions that are going to affect the kids are known."

Travis' Kids Being Welcomed Into the Kardashian Family

During the episode, viewers saw Travis' kids join in on the festivities when Khloé Kardashian pointed out that they have been "blending families" for years. The drummer shares son Landon, 18, and daughter Alabama, 16, with ex-wife Shanna Moakler. He is also a father figure to Atiana, 23 — who Shanna, 47, shares with ex Oscar De La Hoya.

At the engagement dinner, Landon delivered a speech to his father and Kourtney, saying, "I have never seen my dad this happy before. To keep it short and sweet, I am really happy for him and I know it is going to last really long and be an amazing part of our lives and our journey."

The Proposal

"I feel like I am living in a fairytale. I couldn't have dreamed of anything more perfect. I have never in my whole life dreamt of getting married until Travis and this relationship," Kourtney gushed after her now-fiancé popped the question. "I am kind of like in shock but I am also telling myself, 'Don't be nervous. This is one of the best moments of your life."

The reality star added: "The way that Travis proposed it does say a lot about who he is. He is super romantic and it is perfect because he did it."

Travis' Dad Weighing In on Their Connection

While celebrating their engagement, Travis revealed how his father, Randy Barker, felt about his now-fiancée.

"The first time he met Kourtney was at my house and afterward he woke me up in the middle of the night to say that Kourtney reminds him a lot of my mom," the musician shared before calling his dad to break the exciting news to him.

Scott's Reaction to the News

During a conversation with Khloé, 37, Scott explained that his biggest concern was how his kids felt about the engagement.

"I will always love your sister but I wasn't that caught off guard. I thought they were already married with the way that she was talking. So it wasn't crazy. Thank God because at another time in my life if I would have heard that then life would have been over," he admitted.

The Talentless cofounder noted that he felt a sense of "relief" that Kourtney found someone to look after her, adding, "In a selfish way, I kind of feel like a weight has been lifted off of me. In the end, it is a good thing. I couldn't do the job of being with her. So I salute Travis. He is in for a lot of work. Kourtney is not the simplest when it comes to everything."

Scott also offered another glimpse at how his children reacted to the news. "They were upset. They didn't understand why they were watching TikToks of his kids there and they weren't there. Hopefully, they are invited to the wedding," he said. "If I got engaged 50 minutes away I would have just said, 'Someone just drive my kids here.' And Penelope would have been ecstatic. We were acting as if the place was 10 hours away."
