Born in 1974 in Delaware, Ryan Phillippe embarked on his career with controversy in 1992, playing the first gay teenager on daytime television on the soap One Life to Live.

After this role, he went on to star in several teen flicks, including I Know What You Did Last Summer and Cruel Intentions, and more serious projects like Crash and Flags of Our Fathers.

Phillippe married actress Reese Witherspoon in 1999 in a small ceremony on a plantation in South Carolina. However, the duo divorced in October 2006. They have two children together: Ava and Deacon.

While filming the movie Stop-Loss in 2006, Phillippe began dating costar Abbie Cornish; they split in February 2010. The actor began dating Amanda Seyfried after meeting at Kate Hudson's Halloween party later that year.
