Madonna: "I Am Ecstatic" to Adopt Mercy James

Madonna is "ecstatic" a judge approved her appeal to adopt three-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James from Malawi.

"I am extremely grateful for the Supreme Court's ruling on my application to adopt Mercy James," Madonna told through her spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg.

"I am ecstatic. My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her," continued the singer, who adopted David Banda, 3, from Malawi in 2006. Madonna's earlier bid was rejected after a judge ruled prospective parents must live in the country 18 to 24 months. But during Friday's hearing, Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo called the residency requirements an "old law."
