Happy birthday, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter turns 5 on Friday. Shiloh's unique fashion choices set her apart from many other star kids -- in lieu of frilly dresses and long hair, she usually dons boys' clothing and keeps her blonde locks super-short.

"Shiloh, we, feel, has Montenegro style," Jolie, 35, told Vanity Fair in 2010. "It's how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."

Jolie also told the British magazine Stylist: "I want [Shiloh] to do what's in her heart and what's in her heart is to dress like that, I think it's beautiful."

The mom of six also told Reuters: "Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth."

Whether this child is just going through a phase, a genuine tomboy, a future masculine lesbian, or will identify as a transmale in the future... I think there are way too many idiots posting commenting on how wrong this situation is. GOOD parents accept their children for who they are, & that is what I see here. Shiloh's actions are hurting nobody, nor are they damaging to the future in any way. Why are people threatened by this child's individual preferences?

@Erica Rogers, I was exactly like that as a child. I wore only boys clothes and preferred to be called Tristan. I'm no longer like that and prefer things that teenage girls do such as dress-up and have reverted to using my original name. The girl is five and she has enough people speculating on everything about her. She's lucky she's so young and is able to do those things without worrying about how people will perceive her. She'll have to put up with a lot of criticism when she's older so I say good on Angelina and Brad for letting her do what she pleases in the only stage of a persons life where you're truly capable of doing so. And I'm not at all ashamed of wearing boys clothes when I was younger. I look back and laugh and I think was pretty darn adorable.

Parents are supposed to guide children, not let them do whatever they darn well please to do in most cases. However, in this case, Shiloh is not a tomboy. Allowing your child to be a tomboy is fine, but this smacks of a problem. She wants to actually BE a boy. Acts, dresses, imitates a boy, because she is unhappy being a girl. Jolie said she will only answer to John or Peter, and she wants to be a boy. You tomboys out there, did you rename yourself? actually buy and wear only boys clothing 24/7 even boys swim trunks to swim in? did your parents ONLY buy you boys clothes? since your a toddler. If Shiloh were in public school, they would torment her. She needs help perhaps. If she really is gender confused, then so be it, but to ignore it is sad.

They should consider what she may think when she's older and sees every last one of her childhood pictures with her looking like a little boy. It may be cute now but it may not be when/if she grows out of it. These are not only childhood pictures but they are memories. They are no do-overs. For her and their sake, I hope she will be fine with this as an adult.

@Elizabeth Aspen....you're a moron....my kids are grown and extremely successful with unbelievably smart and NORMAL children...I pity you too now

The only reason people make a big deal out of the way Shiloh dresses is because gender roles are ingrained into children from the moment they are born. It's a girl so she must wear pink! lol. I think what they are doing is healthy. In my opinion, Brad and Angie are better parents than people make them out to be.

@Cyndee Trausch: Can only imagine what your little conservative right wing freak children will turn out to be like.

Shiloh is adorable and people should leave her be. Her mother apparently isn't the style icon she's made out to be. Almost every fashion designer went, 'Monte-whah...style?' when she said that.

She's a gorgeous child. I love that her parents let her be herself. Don't understand why people are so uptight about this. It's only clothes and hair. Clothes can be changed. Hair grows out.Being accepted for yourself is priceless.

all the imbreds harking on Shiloh need to shut up...its called a "personality". Perhaps you should get one!

Seriously, only warped people think that what a person is at 4 or 5 years old is how they will be as adults...do you guys even hear yourselves? Seems to me there are adult freaks right here..it doesn't take being in Hollywood. Grow up!

  • May 27, 2011 - 1:56pm Kim Novak

This little girl is going to grow up to be gorgeous..I don't know why everyone seems so concerned about it at 5! Geez, let Shiloh play and be a kid. I was a tomboy too when I was young. I wore sweatsuits, played like a boy, etc. Now, I love shoes, purses, make up, clothes and MEN.

    I agree

  • May 27, 2011 - 1:45pm Cyndee Trausch

gross! I pity Hollywood kids...their parents make them freaks

    Adorable. Happy 5th B-Day Shiloh.

  • May 27, 2011 - 1:39pm Susie Tracey Dugan

I think Angelina wished for a boy and is pushing this kid into being one. Why else give her such an ugly haircut? I guess she doesn't pay attention to the millions of articles on bullying. Fine... let the kid express herself... but also know that there will unfortunately be a price to pay.

    She looks like a boy
