The horror of Halloween shouldn't be found in nip slips and exposed muffin tops.

This year, Nicole Richie has a public plea for ghouls and girls around the world: don't "dress slutty!"

"Girls, can we all pledge that we will not dress slutty for this Halloween?" the 30-year-old posted on her Facebook page Thursday. "The jig is up!"

Although Richie, who is mom to Harlow, 3, and Sparrow, 2, has donned some provocative outfits in the past, her Halloween costumes in recent years have been rather wholesome. In 2009, she covered up as the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, and in 2010 she dressed conservatively as Margot Tenanbaum from The Royal Tenanbaums and also as Jessie the Cowgirl from the Toy Story films.

Oh brother...Give me a freakin' break. It's halloween, not a conspiracy against women! Let people be themselves without having to live up to a new social standard, determined by Nicole Ritchie no less. LMFAO!

Good advice, and good for anyone, especially in freaky celebrity land who is trying to promote a positive image for the young. and society.

Thank you, Nicole Richie! I've never been a fan of hers (I still don't get why she is famous), but she seems to have really matured in recent years. If she happens to have girls who look to her for some reason as a role model, then I applaud her for trying to get them to behave more modestly...just act your age should be the message in general. Good for her for speaking out.

She's grown up! Listen Lisa, the best role models are people who have made mistakes and learn from them. Something to think about...

  • October 27, 2011 - 11:36pm Aimee Mullen

i cant believe you people are gonna dog on her for trying to (and, completely succeeding) to be a positive role model. everyone makes mistakes. but, she has made up for hers...and, then some. so, ummmmmmmmm, i dont think she can be considered as a pot calling a kettle black. which, didnt turn out as clever as you may have wanted it to, by the way! i'll take as many positive influences in my daughter's life as possible! so, even i f gwen stefani already did it....GOOOOO NICOLE!!!
