David Letterman apologized to his wife, Regina Lasko, while taping his first talk show since announcing last Thursday that he'd had sex with female employees, Usmagazine.com confirms.
"She has been horribly hurt by my behavior," Letterman said to his audience, "and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it. And at that point, there's only two things that can happen: either you're going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you're going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me."

(The late night host married longtime girlfriend Lasko, with whom he has 5-year-old son Harry, on March 19 in Choteau, Montana, after dating for more than 20 years.)
While apologizing to his staff and his Worldwide Pants production company on the set of CBS' Late Show, an audience member told Us that he seemed more serious than usual.
"I'm terribly sorry that I put the staff in that position," he said. "Inadvertently, I just wasn't thinking ahead. And, moreover, the staff here has been wonderfully supportive to me, not just through this furor, but through all the years that we've been on television and especially all the years here at CBS, so, again, my thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I’ve gotten myself involved in."
The 62-year-old also tried to find humor in the situation. In his monologue, he jokes, "did your weekend just fly by?" (Watch video above.)

Letterman stunned his audience Thursday night when he revealed his dalliances with female employees after he'd been threatened with a $2 million extortion plot by CBS producer Robert "Joe" Halderman.

Stephanie Birkitt, 34, was named as the woman at the center of the scandal. Reports have linked her to both Letterman and Halderman, who pleaded not guilty to grand larceny, and was released from jail Friday on $200,000 bail.
If convicted, Halderman faces five to 15 years behind bars.

I am not here to judge David. That is a matter betweeen his wife and the ladies who worked for him. The thing that I have a problem with is how he relentlessly went after others for infidelity. This puts him in the camp of a hypocrite. So , I think he should drop his jokes that make fun of other people's sex lives. The same goes for the ministers and politicians that try to control what others do, while they themselves often do worse. In fact , as far as I am concerned, we can drop this entire puritanical attitude, and live with the fact that we are all human. -

It was BEFORE his marriage, the relationships were all adults and consensual, there is NO policy at his company against employees, bosses dating each other, (I've never known a workplace where employees and bosses DIDN'T date, they're ALL like soap operas). No one on his staff has ever had a bad thing to say about Dave. This is only about some nutcase jealous idiot trying to extort money because he's messed up his own life. And during 20 years of "dating" off and on, I highly doubt Dave's wife did not know he saw other woman too. I don't think she's stupid. It was ALL before he was married, so what's the problem? I dated other men while I dated the guy I eventually married. THEN I stopped seeing the other men when I married, as Dave then stopped seeing other women when he married.
