About

Duane “Dog” Chapman is a bounty hunter and reality TV star best known for his series Dog the Bounty Hunter. Chapman was raised in Denver, Colorado, alongside his three siblings. He did not attend college and had early run-ins with the law, serving time in the 1970s for a murder conviction related to a drug deal gone wrong. After prison, he turned his life around and began a career as a bail bondsman and bounty hunter.

Chapman gained national attention in 2003 after capturing fugitive and convicted rapist Andrew Luster in Mexico. The arrest helped to launch his reality TV career. Dog the Bounty Hunter premiered on A&E in 2004 and ran for eight seasons. He later appeared in spinoffs including Dog and Beth: On the Hunt, Dog’s Most Wanted and Dog Unleashed.

Outside of television, he authored two books, You Can Run but You Can’t Hide (2007) and Where Mercy Is Shown, Mercy Is Given (2010).

Chapman has been married six times. He has 13 children, including Leland Chapman and Lyssa Chapman. His fifth wife, Beth Chapman, died in 2019 from cancer. In 2021, he married Francie Frane, a rancher from Colorado.
