When speaking with Gwyneth Paltrow on the actress' "Goop" podcast in January 2023, Perry responded to the Oscar winner's quip about having children "ruins" relationships.

“I think if both people in the relationship are willing to do the work then it's going to be so much easier,” the Grammy winner said. “But if one person thinks they don’t have any work to do then it’s going to be really challenging.”

Perry gushed over her little one's excitement for the holiday season during a December 2022 interview with Access Hollywood. "She's just coming alive," she raved. "This is her third Christmas and she's super into it."

The songwriter teased that she'd been slacking on one particular holiday detail. "I need to order my Elf on the Shelf now. I can't do 25 days on my first Elf on the Shelf, guys — you know what I'm talking about," Perry said. "It's a journey, I'll do 15 days, maybe 10."

The Lessons of Motherhood

In November 2022, the singer opened up about what no one told her about the early days of motherhood.

“What? This is crazy!” Perry said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada. “You’re feeding in the same corner of the same room for six weeks straight thinking, ‘Will I ever leave this house? And if I do, will they be OK?’”

She added: “You get this surge of joy back and it just makes everything come to life. For me, I’ve learned a lot about presence and that was something that I really wanted to give as a mother is just, ‘Yeah, there’s a zillion WhatsApp chats on fire, but I’m going to put this down and I’m going to color with you right now for 30 minutes because I love you.'”

Always in 'Mom Mode'

Perry went into detail about life at home with Daisy during a September 2022 interview on the "SmartLess" podcast, noting that being in "mom mode" is always a priority on days off. "I am working a lot and I've always worked a lot. I'm kind of a matriarchal figure," she said. "I have a wonderful nanny, but I don't have a full-time nanny because I feel like if I had a full-time nanny then I would never be able to know how to care for my daughter like I'm meant to. ... [It] doesn't matter if I've had a show that goes to 11 p.m. the night before, I'm waking up at 6 o'clock and we're going to go and do breakfast and yes, I have the no sleep shakes."

The singer added at the time that it "doesn't feel good" to miss out on her daughter's milestones. "She's 2, so she's at that point where it's like she's saying new words every day and the other day she was just saying some words that I didn't teach her and I was like, 'Damn it,'" she said.

During an interview in June 2022, Perry revealed that she was hoping a future tour would offer a unique bonding moment for her and Daisy. "I love traveling and now I get to take my daughter and I want to have that experience once again through her eyes," she told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

The Unconditional Love of Motherhood

During a May 2022 episode of the “Life Will Be the Death of Me With Chelsea Handler” podcast, Perry opened up about her first time experiencing motherhood.

“I think your definition of success coming up in your 20s is very material and ego driven, and all of that jazz,” the pop star explained. “Then 30s hits and you care less, and there’s this inner confidence that starts to grow, maybe. Then, with motherhood … my definition of success is just Daisy's happiness. Her happiness really gives me that joy. But, a lot of BS just falls away. Stuff that you thought was important really was never important. You don’t have time for any sort of energetic drama that’s not important in your family. Your family really starts to become first.”

The "Teenage Dream" singer also revealed how being a mom keeps her “grounded.”

She added: “My daughter has reshaped my life, my perspective. She’s given me a love I’ve never had before. I’ve always been wanting that love … and then when she came,** it was like, ‘I love you. For no reason. Just because you are. I was like, ‘What? And you don’t need anything from me? Other than some food?’”

The American Idol star noted that Daisy has given her “unconditional love,' which “always helps my mental health”, adding, “Knowing that I invest quality, present time with her makes me feel really good about myself, about being a mom, about being able to work as hard as I work. When I am with her, it’s quality, and it’s present, rather than trying to juggle everything all at once.”
