“I wasn’t even really perceiving how famous I had gotten,” the “Truth Hurts” singer, 38, said during her appearance on the Monday, September 7, episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast. “I feel like a regular girl in the Twin Cities, walk into the bar, going to get some cheese curds and a beer. I still feel like that girl.”

Lizzo continued, “But the whole world is like, everything I did was news. I had been going full throttle. It was like, clothing line. It was like, TV show, tour, album, actually really doing well. Like, oh my God. I didn’t even know how well the album was doing. I wasn’t paying attention.”

Lizzo shot to fame in 2019 with her hit “Truth Hurts,” which was released two years prior but later went viral thanks to its appearance in the Netflix film Something Great. The single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and increased interest in her third studio album, Cuz I Love You. At the height of her career, Lizzo expanded her profile to include TV and film, hosting a 2022 reality series called Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls and starring in her own documentary, Love, Lizzo. She also launched her own clothing line, Yitty, that same year.

In August 2023, Lizzo became the subject of controversy when three of her former backup dancers filed a lawsuit against the singer, her production company and her dance captain Shirlene Quigley, accusing them of sexual, religious and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault, false imprisonment, creating a hostile work environment and weight-shaming.

Lizzo’s former wardrobe assistant, Asha Daniels, also sued the Grammy winner and her touring company over alleged racial and sexual harassment in 2023.

Lizzo has denied all allegations. In December 2025, a judge dismissed the fat-shaming allegations in the suits filed by Lizzo’s former backup dancers. The remaining claims are still pending in court.

A judge ultimately removed Lizzo as an individual defendant in Daniels’ case in 2024. On Tuesday, September 1, the federal court dismissed the remaining claims against her touring company due to a lack of evidence.

Amid the controversy, Lizzo took a break from releasing music until her fifth studio album, BITCH, in June. The project struggled commercially and failed to produce any chart hits.

Lizzo said on Monday that she had always planned to take extra time to work on her latest album, but the hiatus came at a time when “the world stopped f***ing with me.”

“I was like, ‘Whoa, this feels like my life is over,’” she recalled. “And so with the fame thing and the success and the public perception being super positive and being overly loved and people understanding me, I wasn’t looking over my shoulder for a shoe to drop because I really genuinely was moving so purely. I really, which they say you shouldn’t do, just really showed the whole world my heart.”

Lizzo continued, “When everybody started hating me, I kind of didn’t understand. … I had experienced little waves of it, but this time after my [Special Tour] ended, it was, like, legitimate. So I really did feel like my life was over because music had been my life, and I didn’t feel like anyone wanted me to make music anymore.”

Lizzo said she wondered if she should “cease to exist” amid the backlash.

“It was really heavy. It’s really heavy. And I think you have to kind of go to a very, very, very, very low place to be able to kind of float back up to the top,” she added, noting that she ultimately had to find herself as a person again.

“You know, what I came to is knowing who you are and not what you do. I feel like I had been identifying myself as what I do for so long, instead of remembering who I am because that’s my job,” she concluded. “It was extremely freeing because I’m like, ‘Oh, only I know me, only I know who I am and I need to remember that and not allow someone to change that because I can do that too.’”

“This year’s been really magical. I mean, top moment would probably have to be CMA Fest,” Brian, 41, exclusively told Us on Wednesday, September 2, when celebrating his new album, Coral Beats. “Getting the boys back together, doing the thing at the stadium. Law enforcement confirmed to NBC Los Angeles that authorities searched a house in connection with the investigation on September 17, 2025.

It was not immediately clear how the Hollywood Hills, California, house is connected to the death investigation.

TMZ reported that authorities emerged from the house with a computer and several evidence bags. KABC Los Angeles said D4vd does not own the home, but had been staying at it.

In recent weeks, D4vd was on the Withered world tour. According to Fox 13 Seattle, the singer canceled his show in the city on September 16, 2025.

Shortly after the body was confirmed to be Rivas’, her family began a GoFundMe to raise money for her funeral services.

The Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed to TMZ on September 23, 2025, that Rivas’ body had been released to her family. The investigation into her death continued and authorities did not reveal at the time if they had a suspect.

Rivas was likely “dead for several weeks,” LAPD Captain and Commanding Officer Scot M. Williams told People on September 28, 2025.

On September 29, 2025, TMZ reported that Rivas’ death certificate revealed she was not pregnant when she died, and the teen had not been pregnant in the last year.

Riverside County Sheriff deputies were called to Rivas’ house 11 times in just one year, TMZ reported on October 1, 2025.

According to police records obtained by the outlet, deputies responded to Rivas’ house in Lake Elsinore, California, several times between February 2024 and April 2025. On March 19, 2024, deputies reportedly visited her properties three times in one day.

NBC News reported that D4vd was officially identified as a suspect in Rivas’ death in November 2025, according to a Los Angeles Police Department source.

D4vd had not yet been arrested for his alleged connection to the crime as of December 19, 2025.

Burn Cage Found Inside Home Rented by D4vd

California P.I. Steve Fischer took to X on December 16, 2025, to claim that he was hired by the owner of the property D4vd was renting. Amid his investigation, Fischer alleged he found a 55-pound burn cage inside the home. He also noted that it had not been used and was still in its original packaging.

The P.I. went on to state that the incinerator burns “at 1,600 degrees,” explaining that crematoriums typically set their equipment to 1,400 degrees.

It is barred to use such an incinerator within the city of Los Angeles.

D4vd Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

D4vd was arrested in connection to Rivas’ death on April 16 and held without bail, Us Weekly confirmed.

“Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas.  Burke is being held without bail,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement. “The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday for filing consideration.”

D4vd Charged With Murder in the Death of Celeste Rivas

In a news conference on April 20, 2026, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that D4vd will be charged with first-degree murder with the death of Celeste Rivas.

“I am a parent of three children, and a parent’s nightmare is a situation where your daughter goes out one night and never comes back, as we will show in a court of law,” Hochman told NBC News and other reporters.

Hochman noted that there are additional special enhancements, which could have D4vd facing a potential death penalty. That determination will be made at another date.

D4vd’s attorneys previously stated they were prepared to “vigorously defend David’s innocence.”

D4vd’s Mugshot Is Released

Following D4vd’s arrest, his mugshot was released after being arrested for the death of Celeste Rivas. The musician can be seen wearing a black hoodie as he stared into the camera.

D4vd pleaded not guilty in the case of Celeste Rivas’ death, per BBC. The rapper was charged with first-degree murder, lewd and lascivious acts with a person under 14 and mutilating a body. He remains in custody without bail.

Celeste Rivas’ Cause of Death Revealed

An April 2026 autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Rivas died from “multiple penetrating injuries caused by object(s),”per a press release obtained by Us in April 2026. The medical examiner’s report stated that Rivas suffered “two penetrating wounds” in her torso, as well as “bilateral dismemberment” of her “upper and lower extremities” and “multiple additional skin defects.”

The toxicology report stated that Rivas has alcohol, benzos, methamphetamine and MDMA present in her system.

Celeste Rivas’ Autopsy Report Reveals Details From Crime Scene

The Los Angeles medical examiner detailed conditions from Rivas’ crime scene back in September 2025 in an April 2026 autopsy report. The medical examiner discovered Rivas’ torso and head in a body bag inside the front truck of a Tesla. Rivas was missing both arms and legs, which were found in an additional trash bag. She was seemingly “dismembered into several fragments” per the report.

The Rivas family, through their attorney, told TMZ that they’re “devastated” by newly released autopsy findings and said they’re suffering “profound emotional pain” after reviewing the report.

They described the details as “horrible and gruesome.” They’re now asking for privacy as they enter a new chapter of the case.

D4vd Appears in Court, Prosecutors Claim Evidence Includes Child Sex Abuse Images

D4vd appeared at a hearing on April 23, 2026, where prosecutors claimed that the evidence against the singer includes child sex abuse images on his iCloud storage account.

Beth Silverman, deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County, told the judge that there was a large amount of material in the case files, which has taken a long time to upload, according to NBC News. She said his iCloud account alone had eight terabytes of data, with only one terabyte downloaded so far.

Silverman also said there is a “significant amount” of child sex abuse images on D4vd’s iCloud account.

Attorneys for D4vd said they will “vigorously defend his innocence.”

“We believe the actual evidence will show David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez,” defense attorney Blair Berk added, according to PBS.

According to the outlet, D4vd looked stoic in court as he agreed to a preliminary evidentiary hearing on May 1.

Prosecutors Allege D4vd Dismembered Celeste Rivas’ Body With a Chainsaw

In a brief filed on April 29, 2026, and obtained by Us, prosecutors alleged that D4vd killed Rivas on April 23, 2025, one day after they had a “lengthy argument” via text.

“The messages reveal the victim’s jealousy over defendant’s relationships with other women, as defendant led her to believe they had a future together,” prosecutors claimed. “She became extremely upset and threatened to disclose damaging information about her relationship with defendant to end his career and destroy his life. Defendant’s first studio album was due to be released on April 25, 2025. He had an emerging multi-million-dollar career already in progress. He also had multiple product endorsements, which were highly profitable.”

Other texts between D4vd and Rivas allegedly referenced “sex, pregnancy, abortion and the use of the Plan B emergency contraceptive.” Nude photographs of Rivas and images of the teen engaged in sexual activity when she was 13 were also allegedly found on D4vd’s phone, according to evidence outlined in the brief.

At one point, Rivas allegedly wrote in a text to D4vd, “All we do is have sex and just hang out man I want more than that for myself.”

The brief further alleged that D4vd ordered an Uber to transport Rivas to his home in the Hollywood Hills, where he “stabbed the victim to death multiple times and stood by while she bled out.” He then allegedly called and texted Rivas’ phone asking where she was, claiming he “calculated and planned to set up his defense within a very short timeline after the victim’s vicious murder.”

D4vd “subsequently purchased tools to carry out his plot to dismember and dispose of the victim’s body,” prosecutors claimed, including a body bag, heavy-duty laundry bags and a blue inflatable pool from Amazon under the fake name Victoria Mendez.

He allegedly placed Rivas’ body “into the blue inflatable pool to prevent her blood from spilling onto his garage floor” before using a “chainsaw and perhaps other tools to cut off her limbs.”

“He placed her limbs into a garbage bag, which he deposited into his front trunk, laying the cadaver bag on top,” the brief alleged. “For several weeks, or possibly months, defendant left the victim’s body to decompose inside his Tesla.”

D4vd Pleads Not Guilty in Celeste Rivas Murder Case

D4vd entered a not guilty plea during his August 2026 arraignment hearing. He also made the decision to switch from his high-profile lawyers Blair Berk and Marilyn Bednarski to two public defenders.

Bednarski said before the hearing that there was “no conflict” that led to D4vd’s decision.

“This morning, the court granted our request to withdraw as counsel and appoint the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office, after it was determined David qualified for appointed counsel,” Berk, Bednarski and lawyer Regina Peter said in a statement, per Rolling Stone. “We continue to support David and his defense against these serious charges. We are grateful that the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office had taken over the representation and that David has a highly capable and committed team of attorneys and investigators behind him.”

D4vd’s new lawyer, Los Angeles County Public Defender Walid Kandeel, asked to delay the singer’s arraignment following the preliminary hearing so he could review transcripts in the case. The judge denied the request, noting that D4vd faced the same three charges filed against him when he was arrested in April.

Becky Hill

The Voice U.K. alum is overdue for a breakout in the States, and Rebecca (September 25) may just be it. “This album has definitely got something to f***ing say for itself,” she told NME. Hill cites Blur and The Prodigy as musical influences on the record, and teases subject matter from nepo babies to self-criticism.

Leon Bridges

The soul crooner keeps the good vibes of his 2015 debut, Coming Home, rolling on his fifth album, Happiness Anytime (September 25). “I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones,” he said in a statement. “My role is to be light.”

Soft Cell

Danceteria (September 25) will be the sixth and final album for the “Tainted Love” duo. Vocalist Marc Almond and instrumentalist Dave Ball played together as Soft Cell since the 1970s, and Almond wanted to release the record as a tribute to Ball, who completed his work on the project’s 14 tracks before his death at 66 in 2025.

Tinashe

Don’t be fooled by the title of Tinashe’s new album, Popstar (September 25). The genre-bending talent — who’s riding high after 2024’s “Nasty” and “No Broke Boys” went viral — teased that the album also celebrates R&B and EDM. “It’s cutting-edge, it’s innovative,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Miranda Lambert

After cowriting the biggest song in the world, Ella Langley‘s “Choosin’ Texas,” Lambert is cooking up Crisco (October 2), her aptly titled foray into country-disco. “[I] ended up with something that feels really fun and honest to who I am,” she has said.

The Grammys’ Best New Artist of 2024 isn’t worried about a sophomore slump with Frequency of Love (October 2). Her philosophy? “Go forth with faith and courage and confidence and know that everything I did was everything that I should have done,” she told The Talks.

Wynonna

The country legend will release what she describes as her “most personal and powerful work yet,” The Hard Truth (October 2), after mom Naomi Judd‘s 2022 suicide: “I’ve spent a lifetime singing about heartbreak, healing, faith and survival, but I’ve never made a record like this one.”

Jack Blocker

The American Idol season 22 finalist is expanding his 2023 outlaw country tune “Big Jefe” into an entire concept album of the same name (November 6), inspired in part by his idol Willie Nelson‘s 1975 LP, Red Headed Stranger. “A few songs in, I realized how deeply I related to it,” Blocker said. “Living on the road, making the most of mistakes and running off with a girl that’s way out of my league are all things I’ve lived in plenty.”

“I wanna slow things down and make everyone cry a little bit, hopefully,” McLachlan, 58, said as she joined festival organizer and headliner Rodrigo, 23, for a Saturday, August 29, duet of her hit song “Angel.”

McLachlan went on to explain, “I wanna dedicate this song tonight to the OG, matriarch, beautiful goddess of country music. The biggest philanthropist in the history of country music, Dolly Parton.”

Parton was laid to rest at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum alongside her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, on Friday, August 28. (Dean died in 2025 at the age of 82.)

Richie, 77, checked himself into the hospital after his show at The Muny in St. Louis on Saturday, August 29, to run some tests, according to TMZ, which was first to report the news. He is reportedly hoping to be discharged on Tuesday, September 1.

During the end of Saturday’s show, Richie asked his team to bring out a chair for him to use while performing his final song, “All Night Long (All Night).”

This is the second time in two months that Richie has been hospitalized. During a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, in June, he told the crowd that he felt “dizzy” and “strange” before ending his set early and going to a hospital.

“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he quipped during the show before taking a seat at a piano. Richie then took a brief break from the stage and ended up postponing two shows after doctors reportedly advised him to “rest and return to full health.”

When he returned for his next concert, he joked with his audience, “I had you worried there for a minute, huh?” He added, “You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing.”

The following month, Richie thanked his fans for their words of support via Instagram.

Richie is currently touring with Earth, Wind & Fire. He has a performance scheduled for September 26 in San Francisco. He’s then set to travel to Chicago for another show on September 30 before heading to Columbus, Ohio, on October 2.

Richie then has a residency planned in Las Vegas called King of Hearts starting on October 14 and running through November 14.

Richie started his music career in college and released his solo debut album in 1982 after being a member of the Commodores. Since then, he’s won four Grammys, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.

“My sweet petals, I wanted to let you know I will need to be in cozy footwear for this evening’s show (and possibly tomorrow’s) as I am bandaged up underneath, recovering from a minor injury,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, August 31. The singer reassured her fans that she’s on the mend, writing, “It is not a sprain or anything muscular but just a deep cut!”

“So when you see me tonight without my signature heels, or even possibly having a little trouble putting weight on that foot, that is why!” she explained. “But please do not fret. On with the show and I am on the mend!”

Grande, 33, concluded her post by writing, “I cannot wait to perform for you tonight and tomorrow (even if I am a few inches shorter than usual) … I love you always ♾️.”

Grande’s message comes after she clarified that her upcoming “step back” from the spotlight, which she announced on August 2, was planned and not related to the “negativity” that she’s faced in recent months for her body and weight.
