Katharine McPhee

Katharine McPhee was the American Idol runner-up on the Fox talent competition’s fifth season, which wrapped in 2006. McPhee studied musical theater at the Boston Conservatory, but left for Hollywood, where she had major roles in NBC’s American musical drama, Smash and CBS’s action drama Scorpion.

After losing out to Taylor Hicks on Idol, McPhee released a self-titled debut album in January 2007, which sold more than 116,000 copies in its first week, earning a no. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 charts.

In August 2008, McPhee made her film debut in the comedy The House Bunny, starring as a member of a misfit sorority. McPhee’s other film credits include You May Not Kiss the Bride (2011), Shark Night 3D (2011) and In My Dreams (2014). She made her Broadway debut as the female lead in Waitress in 2018.

In February 2008, she and longtime boyfriend, actor Nick Cokas, married at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church. The couple filed for divorce in 2014. McPhee then dated Scorpion co-star, Elyes Gabel, for two years before their 2016 split.

In June 2018, the singer became engaged to record producer David Foster.The pair tied the knot in Kensington, London, the following year.
