Famous Celebrity Families: Kardashians, Duggars and More

It’s in their genes! The Kardashians, the Duggars and more famous families have made waves in Hollywood over the years. Kris Jenner’s blended family starred on Keeping Up With the Kardashians from October 2007 to June 2021. The E! show followed the talent manager's four children with late husband Robert Kardashian —  Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian and Rob Kardashian —  as well as her and Caitlyn Jenner's daughters, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. The California native became a grandma in 2009 when Kourtney and Scott Disick’s eldest son, Mason, arrived, followed by Penelope and Reign in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Kris is also the grandmother of Kim’s four kids with Kanye West — North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm — as well as Khloé’s daughter, True, with Tristan Thompson, Kylie’s daughter, Stormi, with Travis Scott, and Rob’s daughter, Dream, with Blac Chyna. The talent manager has wanted to have a big brood since she was “a little girl,” she told CR magazine in October 2019. "I used to sit when I was in high school and think, I can't wait to have six kids — I specifically said the number six. Now when I see all of us and it's Christmas Eve and we're all cozy sitting around the tree sipping hot chocolate, I get so excited for my big, happy family.” [sendtonews type="float" key="8nxPUB4euS-2835562-14453"] The In the Kitchen With Kris author has “surrendered” to her family members’ needs over the years, telling the outlet at the time: "Walking this path with them, I make sure they know that they're loved unconditionally.” As for Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, the TLC personalities starred on 19 Kids and Counting with their family from 2008 to 2015. When their eldest children began having kids of their own, the Arkansas natives joined the cast of spinoff Counting On, which ended in September 2020 after 11 seasons. Michelle turns on “grandma mode” while hanging with her more than 20 grandchildren, despite having preteens of her own. "It's amazing because you get to enjoy the fun, but not all the responsibility of packing the diaper bag and remembering all the details that you need to do,” she gushed exclusively to Us Weekly in July 2020. "It's wonderful. It really is. It's the best thing ever. I love having grandkids." Danner-Paltrow-Martin Family

Blythe Danner and her late husband, Bruce Paltrow, were both part of the Hollywood scene well before they welcomed daughter Gwyneth Paltrow and son Jake Paltrow. Danner is an Emmy-winning actress, while her late spouse, who died in 2002, was a producer and director.

Gwyneth followed in her mother’s footsteps as an actress, landing her first role in 1989 in the TV movie High. Her brother, Jake, is also in the business as a director. Over the years, Danner has teamed up with the Iron Man actress, including costarring in 1992’s Cruel Doubt and 2003’s Sylvia.

In 2003, Gwyneth married Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, and one year later, they welcomed daughter Apple. Their son Moses was born in 2006. The duo finalized their divorce in 2016, two years after separating. The Shallow Hal actress married TV writer and producer Brad Falchuk in 2018.

Levy Family

Eugene Levy’s children, Dan Levy and Sarah Levy, followed in his footsteps by becoming actors. His wife, Deborah Divine, is a writer in the business and his brother, Fred Levy, is a TV producer. The Best in Show actor teamed up with his family for Schitt’s Creek after Dan pitched it to him ahead of its 2015 start. Cowritten and coproduced by the father-son pair, the comedy ran for six seasons and starred Eugene as Johnny Rose, Dan as his son David Rose and Sarah as café worker Twyla Sands. Fred was also a producer on the show. In September 2020, Eugene and Dan made history as the first father and son to both win an Emmy in the same year, both for Schitt’s Creek.

Kardashian Family

The family documents their over-the-top activities on KUWTK, which also features Brody Jenner and Brandon Jenner. In September 2020, the famous brood announced that their E! reality series would be ending with season 20 in 2021.

The Duggars

The reality TV family — including kids Josh, Jill, Jana, John-David, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah and Jennifer — first appeared on television sets in 2008 with 17 Kids and Counting. Their TLC show became 19 Kids and Counting following the birth of Jordyn-Grace and Josie. Fans’ interest in the family spawned a spinoff called Jill and Jessa: Counting On, then simply Counting On. The family continues to grow, with several of the Duggars giving birth to their own kids.

Jolie-Pitt Family

Jolie — who adopted Maddox, Pax and Zahara before giving birth to Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne with Pitt — makes an effort to educate her kids about their heritage. "Some of my kids are from countries that have seen conflict," Jolie said. "I usually just explain to them that there are other families in the world that aren't as fortunate as ours."

The Sheens

Martin Sheen (born Ramón Estévez) is father to Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez. In September 2018, the Apocalypse Now actor, whose other children Ramon and Renee Esteves are also actors, spoke with Us on how he dealt with Charlie’s addiction issues. “You always hope that things will continue to improve, but you can’t control anything, and that’s the ego," he said. "You just give thanks and praise every day for what is there, and you embrace it. It’s never, ever complete. It’s not the end of the journey. It’s a lot of work to be done. Life is a wonderful journey. I love every bit of it, even the difficult parts, because that’s what helps you become yourself.”

Parker-Broderick Family

When Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick decided to add twin daughters to their family via surrogate, Parker knew the decision would be controversial. "I knew there would be lots of opinions about, 'Well, why didn't you adopt?' and the truth of the matter is, it wasn't one or the other for us," the actress, who is also the mother of son James, said of becoming parents again.

Witherspoon-Toth Family

Raising kids Ava and Deacon as a single mom before marrying Jim Toth in 2011, the actress makes sure her kids appreciate what they have. "I try and stay away from the gluttony of things," Witherspoon (who split from their dad, Ryan Phillippe, in 2006) explained. Witherspoon and Toth added to their family in 2012 with the birth of son Tennessee James.

McDermott Family

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott chronicled their family's day-to-day happenings on the Oxygen reality series Tori & Dean, detailing the exploits of the couple and their children, Liam and Stella, since 2007. Five months after giving birth to daughter Hattie in 2011, Spelling became pregnant with son Finn. "It has put us over the edge. They're 10 months apart," she explained of her two youngest children. "It got a little crazy going from three to four. It's basically like having twins at home. It's overwhelming." Her and McDermott's son Beau arrived in March 2017.

Simpson Family

Raised by now-divorced parents Tina and Joe Simpson, Ashlee Simpson and Jessica  Simpson are each mothers, and Ashlee told Us that her son Bronx can't get enough of his cousins Maxwell and Ace. "He is definitely protective, and he's so excited about every time [Maxwell is] growing," she said before her sister welcomed Ace in 2013. "He loves that stuff!" (Ashlee is also moms of daughter Jagger and son Ziggy, while Jessica is alos mother of daughter Birdie.)

Smith Family

"For our family, the entire structure of our life, our home, our business relationships — the entire purpose is for everyone to be able to create in a way that makes them happy," Will Smith said of wife Jada Pinkett Smith, daughter Willow and son Jaden, all of whom are in the entertainment industry. "Fame is almost an inconsequential by-product of what we’re really trying to accomplish. We are trying to put great things into the world, have fun and become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love." Rancic Family

Struggling to conceive a child naturally when Giuliana Rancic was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, she and Bill Rancic suffered through multiple rounds of failed IVF before welcoming son Duke via surrogate in 2012. "We're husband and wife, but we're also best friends, and it's funny because a lot of people, when they have kids, they put the baby first, and the marriage second," Giuliana told Us. "That works for some people. For us, I find, we put our marriage first and our child second, because the best thing we can do for him is have a strong marriage."

McConaughey Family

"Home is the road. We're a traveling circus," Matthew McConaughey's wife, Camila Alves — a handbag designer and model — joked to Us of her and the actor's unconventional daily routine with children Levi, Vida and Livingston. Traveling to McConaughey's movie sets, including Dallas Buyers Club's New Orleans set, was rewarding on multiple levels. "Levi and Vida get to see and experience so much culture. We call ourselves the trailblazers," Alves explained.

Stefani-Rossdale Family

"It's super fun being a mom, but it's not what you think it's going to be. And it's really gradual. At first, your life is totally the same. You have this cute little thing that you get to drive around everywhere and you're so proud and it's amazing," Gwen Stefani told Vogue of life with her and ex-husband Gavin Rossdale's sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo. "And as they grow older, it really does start to change your life. Like, 'Oh, my God, they have school, they have to get through first grade, they have to learn to read.'"

Beckham Family

She's a former Spice Girl and fashion designer and he's a star soccer player, but Victoria Beckham insists her home life with David Beckham isn't as outlandish as fans may surmise. "Honestly, once the children are in bed, I'd rather work or shove on a face pack and pluck my eyebrows," Victoria, mom to sons Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo and daughter Harper, told Vogue Australia of how the couple spend their evenings. "By the time Brooklyn's finally gone to bed, it's all I'm fit for. Really, we're much more normal than people think."

Garth Family

Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jennie Garth has been raising daughters as a single mom since her 2012 split from Peter Facinelli. Since their breakup, Garth told RetailMeNot she's become more frugal. "Every day, I get up and make breakfast for my girls. I sit on the rug during story time at my daughter's school; I make costumes for the first grade play; I contribute to potlucks," she detailed of her life as mom to Luca, Lola and Fiona. "Every minute is precious, and now more than ever, every dollar I bring home, or manage to save, means more safety and security for my family and our future."

The Royal Family

Talk about an unconventional upbringing! Kate and William's three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, live in the lap of luxury as they are raised in famed Kensington Palace. "For me, Catherine, and now little George are my priorities. I think the last few weeks for me have been just a very different emotional experience," Princess Diana's eldest son reflected to CNN weeks after Kate gave birth. "Something I never thought I would feel myself . . .a lot of things affect me differently now."

Zolciak-Biermann Family

Party of eight! After marrying Kim Zolciak in a televised Bravo special in 2011, former Atlanta Falcons player Kroy Biermann adopted her two daughters from a previous marriage, Ariana and Brielle. "I don't know if I could love anybody else's children as much as Kroy loves the girls," Zolciak raved to E! News of her husband. "I just don't know if I have it in me." The couple are also parents to sons Kash and KJ, as well as twins Kane and Kaia. Kim filed for divorce in May 2023.
