Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas’ Relationship Timeline

More than four years after meeting on set, Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas found love after heartbreak. News broke in November 2019 that the This Is Us star filed for divorce from Chrishell Stause after two years of marriage. While he listed their date of separation as July 8, 2019, the Selling Sunset star marked the end of their marriage as November 22, 2019, the same day Hartley filed the paperwork. “The divorce filing was a big surprise to everyone around Justin and Chrishell in terms of their friends,” a source told Us Weekly at the time, noting that the actor “had been having problems with the marriage for a while.” Stause, for her part, claimed on her Netflix reality show that she was blindsided by the filing. “I’m just kind of in shock with it all,” she said in the season 3 teaser. “It’s just a lot all at once because everybody in the whole world knows. I love him so much. This was my best friend. Who do I talk to now?” After Stause’s costar Christine Quinn claimed that the former couple were in “in therapy” and “having communication problems for a while” before their split, the All My Children alum fired back. [jwplayer OgW4EHu5-l3ahXupL] “[Christine] knows absolutely nothing about the situation and is obviously desperate to gain attention by doing so,” she tweeted in July 2020. “Anything from her is either a complete lie or total conjecture on her part. … She has absolutely zero knowledge of the marriage we had.” Hartley was previously married to Lindsay Korman from 2004 to 2012. They share daughter Isabella. While the actor has stayed mum on his split from Stause, he confirmed he was in a good place as his estranged wife feuded with her costar. “I’m a happy guy. I sleep like a baby. I don’t have anything on my mind,” he told Entertainment Tonight in July 2020. “I treat people the way I want to be treated and I have lovely friends who love me and I love them. 2015 - 2016

Pernas joined Hartley (Adam Newman) on The Young and The Restless as Marisa Sierras, Adam’s nephew’s girlfriend, in 2015. They costarred on the soap together for nearly a year, with Pernas often sharing photos from behind-the-scenes of the show via Instagram.

Stause, meanwhile, joined the cast for a 10-episode arc just weeks after Pernas wrapped up her role.

2017-2019

Hartley and Pernas stayed friends after their time on Y&R. The actress often commented on both Hartley and Stause’s Instagram photos. The realtor shared the love, often “liking” Pernas posts until February 2020. She no longer keeps up with Hartley or Pernas on the social media platform.

May 2020

Hartley and Pernas were spotted kissing as she dropped him off at a doctor’s appointment in Southern California in late May 2020.

Pernas proved the twosome were going strong in July 2020 by leaving several sweet comments on Hartley’s daughter Isabella’s photos via Instagram.

“Happy 16th ma cherie,” Pernas commented on the teenager’s 16th birthday Instagram. The actress also left a red heart emoji on Hartley’s post for his daughter’s big day.

Days later, Pernas wrote, “Yowzaaa!” under a snap of Isabella.

September 2020

Stause publicly acknowledged Hartley and Pernas’ relationship for the first time in September 2020, telling People it’s “painful” to see him move on. “I feel like anybody would be heartbroken to see how quickly or easily you are replaced; of course that’s going to sting,” she said.

December 2020

The couple made their relationship Instagram official on New Year's Eve in December 2020. "Happy New Year from our quarantine den to yours," Pernas wrote.

January 2021

Pernas paid tribute to Hartley on his 44th birthday. “Celebrating this man with my fav screen grab,” she gushed via Instagram. “That smile!!! Lights up my sky. Happy Birthday, [darling].”

The couple made their red carpet debut at the MTV Movie & TV Awards in May 2021. The pair turned heads as they both wore bands on their left ring fingers.

Hartley posted a gushing tribute to Pernas for her birthday via Instagram. “Happy Birthday to my beautiful Sofia,” he captioned the post, alongside a slideshow of photos of the two of them. “This amazing woman makes me laugh out loud every single day. Here’s to taking down oysters all over the world! I love you very much!”

Hartley and Pernas walked their second red carpet together in Los Angeles to celebrate the Emmy nominations for his NBC drama, This Is Us. They matched in blue outfits while attending the Television Academy's reception to honor Emmy Award nominees.

October 2021

During a joint appearance, the duo revealed that they weren't in a rush to expand their family because of how the coronavirus pandemic affected their relationship.

“We fell in love and we now get to do all the fun stuff that couples do. So we’re just enjoying that," Pernas told HollywoodLife at the time. "It‘s hilarious. Technically our first date was a year after we were together because that was when the world opened up.”

The Brave actress also noted that she didn't have any regrets about how out of order their relationship milestones ended up because of COVID-19.

“You always have these ideas as a little girl about what marriage is, and then you meet the love of your life and all those ideas sort of go by the wayside,” she explained, to which Hartley added that the highlight of their marriage was him “hanging out with my best friend.”

December 2021

“You meet in different capacities. We didn’t work together that closely, and we didn’t work together that long. I knew that she was very kind and very nice. I liked being around her. But I was in a different place in my life. I wasn’t available,” Hartley told Haute Living of being introduced to Pernas — whom he worked with on the Young and the Restless in 2015 — while he was still with Stause. “Timing has a lot to do with that. I’m very lucky to not only have found ‘The One,’ but I found her when she was available and the timing was right.”

The Smallville alum gushed over how effortless his relationship is with Pernas. “It’s incredible when you’re not forcing things. It doesn’t have to be that hard,” he continued. “You just meet the right person and you just go, ‘Oh, this is amazing. It’s just so wonderful!’ You’re so attracted and so attached to this person. You just love this person so much. … When I remet her, I just knew. It’s so interesting about the human heart and human mind. It’s not a codependency — I’m just at peace with myself. I feel loved and I feel appreciated. I know she feels the same way.”

The couple wore matching navy suits to the Critics' Choice Awards, where Hartley was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. "Obviously, we’re still in the honeymoon phase. We're wearing matching outfits," Pernas joked to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, before correcting herself. "No, this is our forever phase," she said.

Pernas praised Hartley's "very smart" daughter, Isabella, in a Page Six interview, gushing, "She's so wise. I mean, that girl, she’s got it figured out! She knows exactly what she wants. She has a beautiful, wonderful boyfriend. I don’t want to say too much about it because she’s like, ‘Ahh!’ but they’re awesome.”

Hartley raved about Pernas and her performance in Blood & Treasure season 2.

"She's unbelievable," Hartley told E! News. "I'm in a position right now where I'm sleeping with a woman who's so talented behind the camera and then also her physical ability that she's a stunt woman. She's brilliant."

He continued, gushing, "She speaks five languages. She's lovely. She's so worldly. So knowledgeable. ... Just when you think you're doing well in life and then you meet someone like that, I'm like, I need to step up here."

The actor gushed about working with his spouse on NBC's Quantum Leap, in which he guest-starred as a bounty hunter named Jake. "It was the absolute best," Hartley told E! News. "I don't know if I've ever laughed as much on a set. We had such a good time. ... Sofia's got a really great sense of humor."

He continued: "There were a couple of moments where she took some liberties, she did a little ad-libbing, which allowed me to do a little ad-libbing. And the characters became more and more annoyed with each other — specifically, Jake becoming annoyed with her, not really the other way around — and we had a lot of fun with that."

"It's amazing. It's good for the environment too. You can carpool and everything, so it's wonderful," Hartley told E! News about starring alongside Pernas in future projects. "Absolutely we'll do that. For sure."
